Lady in the Shadows

There is a lady, lurking in the shadows. The baby's room, wall-papered in sky blue and decorated with big-eyed fluffy stuffed animals, darkens when the night falls. Pastel color plastic critters still swirl, this time in a slower motion, hanging from the carousel, drawing funny patterns on the wall in darker shades of blue and gray.

The little infant is sleeping but in the way he tosses and turns inside the cradle his fleece blanket moves asides, leaving him uncovered. It is a cold night, and the baby wakes up crying, shivering. The lady, the one who lost his children a long time ago, steps out of the shadows and cuddles the infant up. Gently, with her silky pallid hands, she bundles the little angel in his blanket and placed him back in the crib. Offering a motherly smile, the woman rocks the cradle and makes the baby giggle. She sings lullabies from a bygone time... The ones she sang to her own kids.

Mother woke up after hearing her little son cry and hurried to his room. When she opens the door, she gasps and steps back frightened. The young mother could swear she saw a woman by her baby's crib. Her son was smiling and the carousel spun in a merry motion playing a sweet melody. She recalls turning the toy off before going to bed herself.
