Maddie found out about the messages. I knew she would. Oh no. I cry into Maliboo's fur. "Why, Mali? Why would they all pick on me like that?"
She nuzzles her nose into my neck.

I know the bullying isn't going to stop. As long as I'm there, they're going to keep doing it. Maybe...should I? Can I even do that? I'm not that brave. I look at the scar on my wrist. It says beautiful and then I slashed a line through it because I didn't, I couldn't, believe it. Mom doesn't know about that. Maddie doesn't know about that, no one does. Eleven year olds don't usually do that. But if I did that, then I can do this.

Mom and Maddie went to dance without me. I said I didn't feel well.
I tiptoe down to the kitchen and open the knife drawer. Maliboo whimpers. She followed me down. "Shh, Mali!" I walk toward the stairs. She follows me. "Maliboo! Stay!" I tell her. She sits and stays, her puppy eyes look sad as she watches me go back to my room.

I don't waste time. I press the knife into my chest, just to the left of my heart. Not enough to pierce, but enough to hurt...and then it's blackness.
