aurelie nightshade felt like a carousel long before her sister had died. she had been living for over two millennia, after all, life is boring. well, she has found ways to make her world fun— she used to be a warrior for a living, and ares had found a liking to her so he'd made her immortal. now, though? she's only living because her sister is alive, and because the mortal world is ever changing, and she finds it amusing. even though she only sees her sister once a year, ali loves her more than she had ever loved anything. zoë should come by more, though, and aurelie tells her this when she comes over for her annual visit, right before the winter solstice. she's there because she needs help, and aurelie's soft, so she helps her sister and her companions to lead them to their deaths. and then zoë actually dies, and ali feels more like a carousel, endlessly spinning around, than ever.
annabeth chase wasn't a person that believed in love at first sight. in general, she hasn't planned to fall in love any time soon. as a demigod she's way too busy trying to survive and sending monsters into tartarus as that she would have time for a partner. besides, as a daughter of athena annabeth is more a strategist and follows her head rather than anything else. but love is something that comes from the heart, and annabeth isn't sure if she could handle it and scared that she would do it wrong. but when she gets kidnapped and tricked into holding up the sky in order to lure artemis and her friends into a death trap, annabeth meets aurelie nightshade. even before knowing the girl's name or who she is, annabeth knows she has fallen for this girl. then aurelie's sister and annabeth wants to do everything to heal the broken heart of the girl she loves.
