Theme

This song finally reveals the events that follow what takes place in "Dollhouse". This song is about what actually "goes down in the kitchen" (a lyric from "Dollhouse"). It provides a deeper look into Cry Baby's family life. "Sippy Cup" is about Cry Baby's mother  murdering her father and his mistress. The sippy cup itself is a metaphor for the lack of being willing to acknowledge reality and the unwillingness to confront one's own reality, especially when it comes to relationships.

The "syrup", in this case, is actually alcohol, an allusion to Cry Baby's mother's alcoholism. Putting an alcoholic drink in a sippy cup or another cup doesn't mean it's no longer alcohol. No matter how much a person may try to dress up a situation (any, not just the one shown), in the end, the problem persists. The lyrics, "Kids are still depressed when you dress them up" describes how no matter what we do on the outside, our inner feelings remain the same.

Lyrics

[Chorus]
Blood still stains when the sheets are washed
Sex don't sleep when the lights are off
Kids are still depressed when you dress them up
And syrup is still syrup in a sippy cup
He's still dead when you're done with the bottle
Of course, it's a corpse that you keep in the cradle
Kids are still depressed when you dress them up
Syrup is still syrup in a sippy cup

[Verse 1]
Blood money, blood money
How did you afford this ring that I love, honey?
"Just another shift at the drug company"
He doesn't think I'm that fucking dumb, does he?
It doesn't matter what you pull up to your home
We know what goes on inside
You call that ass your own, we call that silicone
Silly girl with silly boys

[Breakdown]
Sippy cup, s-s-sippy cup, in a sippy cup, sippy cup
In a sippy cup, in a sippy cup, in a sippy cup, in a sippy cup

[Verse 2]
Pill diet, pill diet, if they give you a new pill then you will buy it
If they say to kill yourself, then you will try it
All the makeup in the world won't make you less insecure
You got weights in your pockets when you go to the doctor's
Your favorite candy's cotton, that's why all your teeth are rotten
Silly girl with silly boys

[Breakdown]
Sippy cup, s-s-sippy cup, in a sippy cup, sippy cup
In a sippy cup, in a sippy cup, in a sippy cup, in a sippy cup

[Chorus]
Blood still stains when the sheets are washed
Sex don't sleep when the lights are off
Kids are still depressed when you dress them up
And syrup is still syrup in a sippy cup

Official music video

Music video

In the video, Cry Baby's mother is shown distraught and drunken on the floor. Suddenly, her drunken husband stumbles into the house, clutching an unfamiliar woman who is also drunk. They begin to dance in the kitchen as the wife pushes herself to her feet. The wife, enraged seeing that her husband has cheated, ties them to a chair before murdering them both with a large kitchen knife and covering their bodies with a large white sheet. When Cry Baby comes downstairs and discovers the bodies, the mother puts her to sleep with chloroform. Cry Baby wakes up, chained to her bed, and her mother pours a sippy cup full of liquid that knocks her out, erasing the memories of that night

Errors

During the line, "All the makeup in the world won't make you less insecure", Melanie angrily smears lipstick all over her mouth. However, at 1:58, her lipstick breaks. At 0:36 mom is holding a bottle, but when the frame changes, mom is holding a cup and then a bottle again.

Trivia

This is the only song on Cry Baby that starts acapella. There was a debate on whether or not Cry Baby died at the end of the video. Melanie informed her fans at a concert that she did not; her mom had just given her a drug to make her fall asleep so she would forget what she saw.The angel that repeatedly comes up is supposed to represent the death of Cry Baby's innocence, not Cry Baby herself.Cry baby's Mom is drinking Red Rum in the video.Red Rum spells 'Murder' backwards. In the official clean version of the song, the word 'ass' is censored with an 'ahh' sound. When the rum is poured into the cup, it sloshes out of the cup. This is to show that her mother is drunk and uncoordinated. The lipstick she used was from her ex-friend, Stella Rose Saint Clair, who also played as Cry Baby's mother. It is also unknown whether Mughen Nakamura reprised his role as Cry Baby's father or not. This was Melanie's favorite song to perform live."Sippy Cup" was certified gold on July 12th, 2017.The lyric "Your favorite candy's cotton" is a reference to the drug Oxycontin."You call that ass your own, we call that silicone" and "All the makeup in the world won't make you less insecure" could be a reference to "Mrs. Potato Head"
