It was just like any other school day, Maggie Miller and her best friend Brian Stone sat together in class while their teacher gave another lecture about 'the importance of mathematics'. Maggie could care less, Maggie felt something hit the back of her head, she whipped her head back and saw Jason white smirking and giggling. Maggie's blood boiled, she was a stubborn, clever but, despite all this, her temper was very short.
"WHATS THE BIG IDEA NUMB SKULL?!" Maggie snapped at Jason, the rest of the class shot her a weird look.
"Is there a problem, Maggie?" The teacher said in a condescending way, Maggie hated that. She had to think of something, fast. So, she did.
"Why, yes there is sir. JASON, back there thinks it's funny to throw stuff at my head." Maggie snapped, she then grabbed what Jason threw and realised it was paper.
"I see...well. You don't really need to react like—"
Before the teacher could finish Maggie unscrewed the paper and read it in her head, she laughed a bit. Then, she laughed some more, then laughed some more and then started cackling. Everyone gave her the weirdest look,
"Mags, wtf—" Brian whispered, Maggie showed him the paper and Brian smiled. Maggie then scribbled something down and threw it back at Jason. The bell rang,
"Class is dismissed.." the teacher said, sounding tired of everything. Everyone cheered, gathered their stuff and sprinted out.
"Mags, what..THE...HELL?" Brian said as they walked through the hall ways, they were brimming with life. Children chatting, laughing, trading things, gossiping. "I know...I know." Maggie finally said,
"But someone had to stand up to that ass!"
"Yeah but— like that?" Brian remarked,
"Its a bit stupid you know-"
"Well whatever!" Maggie said, as long as it shuts him up it will be fine! Maggie opened her locker, she threw in some books and lazily slung her backpack over her back. Another kid came up and tapped Maggie's shoulder,
"Hey erm..it's Maggie right?" The kid asked,
"Errm.. yes?" She replied,
"You don't have to answer but what did the note say..?"
"Oh! Right, well, it was talking about the flooding..but, I don't need to go into more detail." Maggie said,
"Oh, right.." the kid said,
"Say, who even are you?"
"Oh! Im Ryan, I'm not surprised you don't know who I am.." Ryan said,
"Anyway, see ya around, Maggie!"
"Bye..?" Maggie said, not knowing how she should handle this.
"Brian?" Maggie asked,
"Yeah?"
"Do you know who he is?"
"Oh! Ryan used to be best friends with Jason but, something happened between them and now he's an outcast or something." Jason explained,
"Oh. Right.". Maggie had only been in the school for 7 months, she had joined a quarter of the way through the school year. So, she didn't know anything about anything really . She considered herself lucky to have met Brian, he was happy to fill her in on things. Jason had also not been there for long (about 8 months) and he was incredibly popular with everyone. Why? Because he was an asshole and good looking. Maggie even had a chart comparing herself to him.
Jason:
-Dark brown hair
-blue eyes
-scar on eye
-blazer not fully done up
-tie lazily done
-dark red cap (that complimented the jacket very well)

Maggie:
-poofy ginger hair
-hazel eyes
-scrunchi on wrist 24/7
-fully done up blazer
-long-ish skirt
-Black socks
-green hat

Jason had a lot of power over everyone, including Maggie. Jason new that Maggie also was forced to move because of the flooding's, so, he would constantly try to trigger her by mentioning it. It worked every time, every time he would get off Scott free. It was annoying.
Maggie and Brian went their separate ways and She walked up the stairs to her apartment that she shared with her mother. Maggie unlocked the door and it creaked open, per-usual, she slung her blazer onto the old sofa and slammed the door. The building shook slightly, she sighed and then slummed herself on the sofa. Maggie scrolled through the channels, most of it was the news, the flooding was a hot topic since it came out of seemingly no where. So Maggie thought that she may as well tune into what they had to say,
"Flooding in the area has gotten worse, police offices are being sent to attempt more rescues."
She let it play in the background while she thought, She thought what it would be like to go back there. What would it be like to explore the area?
Maggie looked at what was on screen, she saw a house, it look pretty..it had a nice colour, yellow-ish curtains (although, she could tell they had some mould), some stone stairs that were drenched in moss and other bits of grass and flowers, all of it was surrounded by some fencing (that somehow didn't look to be very rusty), the house seemed to have about 4 floors but, she was unsure how many I was going to be able to access. Maggie kept an eye on the house while the news reporter lady was interviewing one of the officers, while looking at the house, she noticed they were putting police tape around it. Maggie was gutted, but, she knew she couldn't give up on it. Her mother came up behind her,
"Hey mags"
"Mum!" Maggie said, smiling from ear to ear,
"How was school?" Maggie's mum (Kathy) asked,
"Eh, it was alright—"
"Alright?" Kathy said, "No way it was that boring!"
Maggie laughed,
"Mum, is it ok if I go out with Brian for a bit?"
"Depends where you're going, hun." Kathy said,
"Just to that park near our school." Maggie was lying, but she was willing to do anything to get even a glimpse of that house.
"Well ok then, how long will you be?"
Maggie smiled,
"About...4 hours..?" She said hesitantly,
"Alright! Try not to be late!" Kathy added
"Alright! See ya later mum!" Maggie said, as she put on a coat and some black gloves. She then ran to her room to grab a mask and a torch, she put these items in her pocket and ran outside. She knew she had her phone in her pocket so, she quickly got a map up, looked at it and went on her way. Maggie texted Brian if he wanted to go, but, he declined since he was busy with work.
Maggie knew she needed to get a job, but, it wasn't very easy finding one. Brian said that she should work where he is working but, Maggie knew it would be too distracting for her, so, she was still hunting for a job. She was aware that when she did find a job, it would most likely interfere with most the research about the flooding she already does. But, she didn't care. Maggie tied her crazy hair into somewhat of a pony tail and then threw up her hood and started sprinting. Nothing was going to stop her.

Authors note:
The last thing I wrote wasn't entirely like 'serious'. And I think it was kinda obvious but, this is 100% series and not like 'satire' like the last story I wrote. I have no idea how long it will take so, be patient wi to me 🤩.
