Skye breathed heavily as the initial shockwave of the explosion ended. The
debris that had shot her way were no more as the pieces scattered on the
ground several yards around the group. Rubble's digger had kept everyone safe, just as Ryder had planned for. The slight ringing in her ears subsiding, Skye
finally focused her attention on the weight above her. She could tell that
whoever was above her was bigger than her, and one glance at the legs and
paws of her guardian gave the Cockapoo her answer: Chase. (Whoever guesses the one who saves Skye in the last chapter, give yourself a high-5 coz I don't do shout-outs in Wattpad for now...)

"Are you okay?" the German Shepherd asked tentatively with a twinge of
nervousness in his voice, looking down at the pilot pup with concerned eyes.

The Cockapoo felt a wave of comfort and warmth flow through her body. Her
love interest protected her from the parts of the shed that had flown their way!
Granted, Chase's move really didn't do anything as the rig they were behind
absorbed most of the blast, but it was the thought AND action that counted. He
had gone out of his way to shield Skye with his body should anything fall near
them. And that's all that mattered to the pilot pup.

Composing herself and lowering her paws from her head, Skye met the police
pup's gaze with a look to assure his worried mind. "Yeah.... I-I'm g-good.
Nothing hit me at all."

Letting out a sigh, Chase moved off of the Cockapoo right beside her. Skye could
tell just by looking at him that a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders. Standing side-by-side to one another - well, maybe a little TOO CLOSE as both
their fur touched each other - Skye and Chase turned their attention over at the
rest of the group as they had raised back up and looked around.

"Everyone all good?" Ryder asked with a thumbs up, eyes darting from pup to
pup. (Shed: No,I'm not okay)

Luckily, none of the pups had a scratch and they all nodded in
confirmation. "Dude.... That was SO COOL!!!!" Zuma bellowed as he threw his paws up in glee.

"Yeah it was!" Rubble agreed as he high-pawed the Chocolate Lab. Rocky picked up the camera that had fallen down due to the blast.

"Camera's
still intact. Oh, I bet the footage is NEAT!"

Marshall wagged his tail intently as he turned his head to the Husky beside him. "Man, that was sweet! What'd you think?"

"Same as you." Everest smiled back sweetly at the Dalmatian. "This has been
one of my most exciting missions to date. May have been short, but the ending
was 'mind blowing'." Both her and Marshall burst out giggling at her terrible
pun.

"Whew!" Chase let out a faint sigh. "Glad everyone's safe."

"Me too." Skye agreed as she stayed by his side. Although she was safe, the pilot
pup couldn't help but feel....funny. Not in a bad way, but she wasn't sure what it
was. It was like something was waring inside her; her emotions clashing in
conflict. "I feel safe and protected, but I.... I feel like it's hard to admit out loud. Well, I should at least thank Chasey for his actions...." As her thoughts faded out, Skye turned her head to look up at the German Shepherd's face. "Hey, um.... T-
thanks for covering me. You didn't have to...."

Chase met her gaze and beamed. "You're welcome, Skye. I know we were
behind the digger but....I just.... I just, felt something come over me to....to
protect you. I, uh, just wanted you safe. Umm...." He started to trail off a little as
he looked to the ground bashfully. (Nuh-uh,you have feelings for her, duh.)

Skye's insides started to melt at his shyness, but more importantly his bravery. "Awwwwwe. He wanted to keep me safe." her mind cooed as she chewed on his
words and actions. Not wanting to make him feel bad, as well as following her
heart's desires, the Cockapoo leaned into the police pup and wrapped his front
leg in a hug.
