Epilogue

The audience clapped for me and I felt a sense of pride. Pride for what I had become. The kids in the gymnasium all did a standing ovation for me, and I felt like I could cry. Of course, it was just the hormones getting to me again, it happens every time. Yet, I could never get enough, once I get home, I’ll be sure to get started on my next speech. It’s a never ended pattern.

“Thank you all for being so kind and considerate during my time here at your high school, I hope you take some of the things I have said to you today and use them as advice for you and your future, because nothing is as easy as it seems, and sometimes you have to fight for what you believe in.” I did a small bow just for laughs and watched as a couple people came up to me.

“I’m so glad you came today, it’s such a sad story you told, where did you hear about it from?” A kind girl came up to me, she was your average teenager, blond hair, and blue eyes with those perfect white teeth everyone is jealous of. I smiled kindly to her.

“A girl in my high school graduating class, it was her life story.” I said, giving her a small smile. Of course, everyone in this school with have found out it was actually my story that I told today, but for now, I was happy with the answer I had given her. A couple people came up and asked me some more questions which I gladly responded to. There was a bunch of good jobs, and congratulations. It was where I belonged, letting people know there was so much more out there for them to do. It was where I belonged, I was happy doing it.

After the students went back to their classroom to continue their learning, the principal came up to me and offered me a handshake, we discussed a few things before I was set on my way back home.

The drive was a short one actually, not too far away, which I liked because it wasn’t a long commute. Obviously I didn’t go to the same school every time as that would be a waste of time! I pulled up to our house and got out of the car.

Our house wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t small. It was adorable; you can picture it however you want to. It was blue, light colored of course. It was two stories, with black shutters and it had this perfect sized wrap around desk that lead to the hot tub in the back of the house, which was secluded by the tall trees we had surrounded the whole place.

The inside was even cuter. Black and red themed, red was my choice, but black was his. We somehow made it work. The fire place was going, making the room warm and cozy.

“Honey, I’m home.” I sung out loud jokingly. When I didn’t hear a response I grew worried. Normally, he would always come out and give me a welcome home kiss. Where is he now?

“Babe?” I called, walking into the kitchen. He was making fajitas; of course, with all the cravings I have had lately it was only obvious as to what I wanted to eat. The sliding glass door opened and Bentley walked in holding the phone in his left hand. He looked up at me and he instantly smiled, walking over to me and kissing me lightly.

“Hey, I didn’t know you were home yet.” He said, wrapping his arms around me and placing one of his hands on my stomach.

“Hey little guy, hurry up, would you?” He asked my belly jokingly. I laughed, but soon stopped when I felt our baby boy kick. He smiled even brighter as he felt it on his hand.

“I told you he understands me…” Bentley said jokingly.

“Who were you on the phone with dear?” I asked, placing my purse on the island chair besides me and taking off my shoes.

“Oh, just to the Lead who’s working tonight, he asked if I was able to work next week and take over for him,” Bentley, with much to my dismay, decided to become a firefighter. I fought him about this for a very long time, and at one point, it almost ruined our relationship, but now… I just look at him as my hero. Of course, I freak out every time I get a phone call from someone on the team, hoping to not hear the worst news of my life.

“But don’t worry, I told him that you were due next week, and that I was getting paid vacation to be with you and the baby.” I smiled at him, how thoughtful; although, we had planned this for the past 6 months. I rolled my eyes at him and laughed slightly.

“I got good news though; old man is retiring, guess who the new lead is?” He asked, smiling proudly. “Trevor?” I asked, knowing he hated the guy and how reckless he was. I’ve heard story after story on how many times Bentley have saved his life, as he puts his own in danger. He scoffed and let go of me, going over to the stove and getting a plate down for me.

“Nice one, almost forgot to laugh, oh wait… its not funny, why would I?” He asked, smirking in the corner of his mouth. I burst out laughing but turned it into a cough so I could get a good comeback.

“Don’t tell me its Roberts?” I said; disgust clearly in my voice. Roberts is… well, he was Roberts. There is no way to explain him.

“Oh puh-lease, darling, he has nothing on me.” Bentley said, causing me to bark out laughing. He turned his head and looked at me with admiration in his eyes.

“Do you disagree, Melon?” He asked, acting shocked as I just shrugged my shoulders. I walked over to him, grabbed his face in my hands, and brought his lips to mine for only a few seconds.

“Congratulations honey.” I said sincerely, causing him to smile and give me another kiss. “How did the motivational speech go today?” He asked, putting the plate in front of me and making a plate for himself.

“You know, just like all the others I have done.”  I said, laughing slightly and watching him sit down next to me.

“You know, I’m proud of you.” He said, wrapping one of his arms around me and bringing me in for a side hug. I smiled at the safety I felt.

“I’m proud of you to.” I said. He gave me a kiss on the forehead and I sighed happily. This is where I belong, it’s where I have always belonged.
