Lysander’s POV

“Class dismissed,” I said. The sounds of chairs and tables scrapping were all I could hear as the students ran out of the room. There was half an hour of a break before they had to rush into the next exam room.

Bradaen was the last to push his chair in and gather his supplies.

“I hope you studied well, Bradaen. Good luck on the rest of your exams today,”

He nodded and thanked me.

“You…you mind if I stay here, for my break?” he shyly asked me.

“Not at all, sit down,”

He grabbed a chair and brought it in front of my desk.

“What exam do you have next?” I asked as he sat down.

He scrunched his face and answered, “Uh, I think I have LOTE (language other than English).”

“Cool,” I said, intrigued. “What language do you take?”

He smiled and answered in a language I did not understand.

“What”

His laugh filled my ears and I chuckled along with him. “It’s Russian,” he says. “I took it during my freshman year. I had other options but Russian sounded more badass,” he explains to me.

“Agreed,” I say. “In high school, I took French and German. This is what most students took. But oh well.”

“Oh, I speak French too. I love it, it’s the language—,”

“Of love,” I finished for him. He turned pink a little and nodded.

“Of love.”

We stood in silence for a few seconds before he coughed and asked me, “So did anyone cheat today? You know, with your powers and everything, you could have figured out.”

I scoffed and nodded. “Lots of students cheated. Jennifer cheated using her cell phone, damn technology these days. Luka, Deborah and Cynthia cheated too. Damian, Roger and Belle used notes. But I think that was it. I don’t suppose you cheated, Bradaen?”

He shook his head no and nervously laughed. Of course, I knew he didn’t cheat. I spent most of the time reading his mind during the exam. He’s a bright student.

But I suppose the way I said it had an effect on him because he blushed again and started breathing a little harder.

-Oh gods, the way he said it, it was like he wanted to punish me, oh gods-

I stopped reading his mind and chuckled mentally. Kids these days turn everything dirty.

But I have to agree his little theory sounded quite appealing.

The bell rung and he stood up and gathered his bag.

“T-thanks for letting me stay here, Lysander. I’ll see you later,”

I waved as he walked out of the room and my next class walked in. It was my senior AP class, and they had exams today as well. I sighed and opened my cabinet and took out their exams.

“Good morning, class.”

“Hey,” they answered back, most of them absorbed in their notes and some of them too busy texting and talking.

“Pencils and pens out, please. You’re only allowed a non-scientific calculator today, class.”

They groaned and took out the necessary supplies.

As I handed out the test papers, I could feel someone looking at me. I quietly focused on the feeling and saw that it was one of my students; I think her name is Ariel.

She’s very bright and smart, but she’s quiet and doesn’t talk much.

She’s a little strange, if you ask me.

I went back to my desk and turned on my smartphone. I could still feel her stare, and I have to say it bothered me a little.

“Class, no cheating,” I said, not even bothering to look up as I know almost half the class will cheat. I’ll find out anyway.

I focused more on the girl that was staring at me…Ariel. I think she’s a relative of Bradaen’s. She was bent over her exam paper and calculating some problems, but I know she wasn’t paying attention to what she was doing.

She kept on glancing at me and frowning, so eventually I stopped trying to pull information from her mind and went back to my game on my phone. This time, the 2 hours went by really fast and soon enough, my next class arrived.

This went on for 3 more hours until exams were over and students were allowed to go back home. They had the next week and a half off and they didn’t have to come to school.

When the last bell rung, it was around 4:30 P.M. I quickly shooed the students out of my class and took my bag and my laptop, rushing out to get my coat.

I stopped at the bathroom, and when I was washing my hands, Bradaen came out of a stall.

“Mr. Star, I see we keep on meeting everywhere,” I said, smiling at him.

He smiled back and said something that sounded like ‘hnnng' .

“How was the remaining of your exams, Bradaen?” I asked, drying my hands with some paper.

“Oh, good,” he said. “It was okay. I think I failed economics, though.”

“Im sure you did fine,” I reassure him. “Are you taking the bus today? Do you want a ride?”

“No, Im not taking the bus. And yes I’d like a ride, thanks!” he thanked me, and we walked out and went to the parking lot. The place was pretty much deserted, and all the students already rushed home, ready for this recess to start.

“So what are you doing this recess, Bradaen?” I asked him as I unlocked the car and we got in.

“Sleep, sleep, and uh, sleep. And probably eat too,” he said, and we laughed together.

“Yeah, Im going to catch up on a few winks too,” I tell him.

“Do you sleep? I mean, do you have to? Don’t you have unlimited energy?” he asked me curiously, as I stopped at a red light.

“Yeah, I sleep. It helps, sometimes, even though I don’t really need it.”

I now knew the way to his house, and we got there a little faster.

He unbuckled his seat belt and said, “Hey, thanks.”

“No problem,” I shrugged, stopping the engine.

“Okay this is going to sound stupid, but can I, uh…can I have your phone number?”

He held his breath and waited for my answer.

I chuckled and smiled, “Sure, Bradaen. As long as I can have yours,”

He smiled back at me and tore out a piece of paper and wrote his number down, and I gave him my number too.

“I’ll text you,” he said, blushing as he got out of the car and walked up to his door.

I smiled and waved at him, trying not to show how thrilled I was at this.

“Good night, sleep well,” I said, starting the car. He wished me good night and walked into his house.

I drove off into the night, passing a few cabins and houses and countless trees. I used to use this road countless of times, when I was younger. I was always comfortable here, but tonight something was off.

I heard a few branches snap and the scurrying of paws. I drove a little bit faster until I was able to get out of the forest and onto the highway.

The feeling of uneasiness never left me all night long.
