the good that's left

when the present sucks
and the future doesn't yield much better
the past stays the same.

the past is what makes us human.
every blink of an eye
breath
glance
adds to the sepulcher that is our experience.

don't you miss it?

the past lies to us
and maybe that's good
would you want to live
while always remembering everything?

what's left for us to indulge in
is the good.
that romanticized glaze over our memory
rose-tinted, peach-scented
what always could've been or had been
lingers in our mind
and i love it.
our mind loves it.

after all
the glamour of imagination
probably keeps us all alive
that's what we live for
for the good that's left.

for the good that's left.
