the bird

i saw a bird today.
he clearly wasn't bothered by me,
simply flying from place to place
observing on the rooftop

he knows no bounds!
oblivious of territory, possession,
maybe even unconcerned with it all.

i saw a friend today.
she told me about her lover.
how come we hate what we don't know
until we are infatuated with it?

the bird doesn't know
what she doesn't know
what we don't know
and perhaps that is ideal.
