And She Just Was

She cut to push away the voices and the words

The cuts hurt so she took the pills

But the pills made the words and the voices come inside her head

And then they were inside and out

And driving her mad

And everyone was loud

And she was sad

But the pills seemed to help

Not in a way people would understand

But they who take them do

They understand

So she took them

And took them

And took them

And quite suddenly,

The voices stopped,

Inside and out,

And there was no before

No after

No now

And there was no past

No future

No present

And she just was

In her own little world

A never-ending,

Dreamless, sleep

And she just was
