EMMA’S P.O.V.

Summer arrived after what felt like forever and I was finally free. I survived my first year of high school and managed to get all A’s on my report card. Darcy did well too, so both our parents were happy with the two of us.

“Okay no, its clap, grab, hit, tap, switch, down, down,” Darcy told me, showing me for the twentieth time how to do the cup song. “You’re forgetting to switch hands.”

I sighed. “So clap, clap, one two three, clap, pick up. Clap, grab, hit, tap,” I slowed down and switched the cup into my other hand. “Switch, down, down!”

“Yes!” Darcy exclaimed with a smile. “You got it. Now you just have to learn to go fast.”

“You do it first,” I encouraged.

Darcy sighed a little bit. “I’ve got my ticket for the long way round, two bottle whiskey for the way, and I sure would like some sweet company, and I’m leaving tomorrow what’d you say… when I’m gone, when I’m go-o-one. You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone. You’re gonna miss me by my hair, you’re gonna miss me everywhere, oh I know you’re gonna miss me when I’m gone…” Darcy stopped, not continuing with the song.

“Why’d you stop?” I asked, furrowing my eyebrows. Darcy looked at the door and before I knew it, Dad opened it and stepped inside.

“Hey!” I smiled and turned around on my bedroom floor to face my dad.

“Darcy was that you singing?” he asked, leaning against the doorframe. I looked between the two of them and my sister’s eyes widened.

“No, I don’t sing,” she answered looking down at her lap.

“Alright… well your mother’s birthday is coming up and I was wondering if either of you wanted to come help me find a birthday present for her?”

“I’ll come!” I jumped up and walked around to the other side of my bed to find my flip flops. I saw my dad smiling.

“I guess I will too…” Darcy said, standing up as well and walking over to her own room to find her shoes.

“Thanks,” my dad smiled as he stepped out into the hallway.

“So what were you thinking of getting her?” I asked, joining him in the hallway. He shrugged a little bit and pulled his iPhone out of his back pocket and checked for any new messages.

“I’m not sure, that’s why I’m taking you girls.” He smiled down at me and I nodded a little bit, looking up into nearly the same green eyes as mine.

“I can’t find my shoes!” Darcy yelled, running out of her bedroom and down the hallway to the main floor. I giggled a little bit.

“Darcy, don’t ride on the railing!” my dad yelled after her.

“Too late!” my sister exclaimed, laughing a little bit. I heard her running around downstairs too.
