When you see death right in front of you, your life is supposed to flash before you in your last moments.

Being someone who had been in a few- well, more than a few- close calls with death, I could confirm that that wasn't true in the slightest: not for me anyways.

Death isn't something to joke about, and life isn't something to waste. Remember that.

Anastasia POV

"I just want them dead. I don't care how anymore, I just want them gone." I sighed.

"Come on, Ana. Our plan is almost complete. We just need to complete the final step and we can finally leave, with all those Italians gone."

I looked to him and nodded.
He's right. It's the final play.

"Alexei, come here." I shouted for my friend.

He rushed in quickly, asking me what I needed.

"What's the next step?" I questioned, looking at my nails as I spoke.

"Well-"

"Hey Anastasia, can I-"

Without looking up I took a shot at the doorway and I rolled my eyes, waving my gun around in the air to rid the air of the smoke as his body fell to the ground with a thud.

"Always interrupting." I sighed. "Go on Alexei."

"Uh, okay. The final thing we have to do is the ambush. We have all our arms ready and now all we need is the attack. We need to strategise first, we can't just go head first."

"He's right," started the other presence in the room, "The Italians are smart but I doubt they'd be expecting a home invasion. We can get into the house easily, and I can get us access to all the floors of the house to ensure this attack goes as planned."

"Good."

"Anastasia-" Came another person at the door.

"Idiot (russian)" I said, taking my gun off the table and shooting them too. "Do these people never learn?" I sighed, shaking my head.

"Ana, let's not kill off all our soldiers before we ambush the Italians." Alexei said.

I rolled my eyes, "Do you want to be next? That's what I thought."

Lucía POV

We got home quickly and Lorenzo went straight upstairs, calling for Javier as we searched the house for him.

I, on the other hand, had the job of calling a meeting. It wasn't too late in the evening so most people were just lounging about but I went ahead and knocked on the rooms too to ensure no one missed out.

I reached Antonio's room and watched as he opened the door, rubbing his eyes as his eyes remained half open.

"Lucía? What's going on?" He asked tiredly.

"Emergency meeting, I'll explain when we get there. Come."

Going down to the meeting room, loud chatter filled the room with sound and I stood at the head of the table. To gain everyone's attention, I stood up on my chair and shouted.

"Everybody shut up!!"

The room's noise died down and went silent, everyone's attention on me.

"This emergency meeting has been called to put a new plan into place. In these files you see, "I said, handing the files out so they could be passed down the table, "all the information we have on Anastasia Mozorov. Not only that, but there is additional info on her most recent associates and a known lover of hers. You all know her lover as Javier Reyes, one of our top assassins."

Murmurs ripples across the room and I knocked on the table to regain people's attention.

"Yes, I know. Now, we haven't confirmed that Javier is working for her but on the off chance that he is, we need to be prepared for any attacks or ambushes. This means we'll be doubling security around the building and-"

The sound of glass breaking caught my attention and I turned towards the door.

"Lorenzo-"

"On it. The six of you, come with me." He said, pointing at the men in front of him.

"You six, go with them too. The rest of you, follow through. Split into two groups and create a perimeter around all the floors. I want more men stationed on the windows and doors and the guards outside need to double up. This is a code red everyone. Shoot on sight with any perpetrators you see. Let's move!"

We all left the room quickly, and I sent a code red through the intercoms.

I went to my parents room quickly and knocked on the door rapidly.

Opening the door slightly, I realised they were fast asleep.

I went to their bed and shook my father awake first.

"Papa, levantarse. Code red. Someone's breaking into the house." I told him as he spoke to me groggily.

"Lucía? What are you talking about?"

"I think the Russians are trying to make a move now. We need to get you, Mamí and Nonna out of the house now. I'm not risking it."

"I'll send them away, get Javier to start the car. We need to move them fast."

"That's what I was trying to say. We think he's teamed up with Anastasia and is the Russian's way to infiltrate the mansion."

"Dios mio, that boy." He sighed. He got out of bed and slowly woke up my mother.

"Amor, levantarse. We need to leave." He said to my mother.

"Hmm? What's going on?"

"We need to leave, Rosa. It's an emergency."

"Okay, when do we leave?"

"Get dressed, I'm going to address the situation."

"I'll stay with Mama, you go. Everyone has been given their duties and a code red has been sent out. Guards have been doubled and Lorenzo is taking a 12 man patrol team to investigate on the noise we heard."

"Alright, I'll go. Stay here with your mother until I'm back."

As my mother got ready, I stayed near the door. I didn't want anyone barging in and I had a clear view of the room.

My mother walked in from the bathroom and as she did, a glimmer of a red light from the corner of my eye caught my attention.

I looked around the room to see a red spot pointing right at my mother.

"Mamí, get down!!"
