"Little Bear," Mommy growled, standing in the water, a salmon in her mouth. "Let's go eat."
Little Bear's tummy growled really loud. So loud that it startled an otter. The otter, also fishing in the river, almost dropped the small fish it caught.
"Little Bear, go quick, eat!" The small river otter said. "Your tummy scared me. You listen to your mommy. Mommies know best."
Little Bear nodded. "Yes, Otter, I know." The small bear cub scampered out the cold river and up the bank to where Mommy Bear waited patiently.
Mommy and Little Bear ate by the river, watching the river. It was a beautiful spot.
"Mommy?" Little Bear said, sleepily, her tummy nice and full. "Bears are lucky, aren't they?"
"Why do you say that, Little Bear?" Mommy Bear asked. She neatly cleaned her cub's face and then cleaned her own fur.
"We can play in the sun, the river, fish and sleep when we get tired." Little Bear snuggled into Mommy's side. "I'm sleepy now, Mommy."
"Then sleep, Little Bear." And Mommy Bear settled Little Bear on her back and walked to the next safe place to spend the night.
