Jacob had made an effort to spend as much time with Tessa as he possibly could, in an attempt to try and distract her away from her bad thoughts. She really appreciated it. He was trying to show her that he wasn't going to be leaving her any time soon as he knew very well that it was something she was so scared of. That morning they had finally put the finishing touches to the bikes as Bella had texted Tessa to say that she would be coming down and so they wanted to surprise her. Seth had begged to know what she and Jacob were planning on doing this afternoon – as he wanted to hang out with the pair of them. But she had refused to both let him or tell him what she and Jacob were doing. Because she knew that if she did, it would not be long before her mother knew. And then she would be promptly grounded. Jacob still wanted to ask Tessa more about the situation with Embry, he had ever since the day he'd found out about the whole thing but chose not to do so because he was slightly worried that he would lose her if he did. Bella drove her truck away from the Black household to somewhere far more secluded to test them out. Jacob sat between the girls, as Tessa stayed quietly looking out of the window – she had been more quiet recently. So Jacob decided to try and break the ice.

"If I told you," Jacob started, Tessa looked over at him realising that he was not talking to her but instead to Bella – though as he spoke, Tessa couldn't help but lean her head up against his shoulder. Jacob took her hand to comfort her a little an action that she really appreciated. Bella noticed it and almost smiled, because she could tell that recently (a little bit like her) – Tessa had not been having a great time. "I couldn't have fixed these bikes, what would you have said?"

"Are you doubting your mad skills?" Tessa asked him with an almost smirk present on her face, though she didn't move to look up at him. She didn't have to, because she knew that he was asking for another purpose.

"No. Definitely not. Well, I mean – I couldn't have done it without you. They'll run fine." Jacob smiled down at Tessa who stayed leant onto his shoulder as he tried to reassure Bella, knowing that she would care about that part more than anything. "It's just uh... maybe if I was smart, I would have dragged out the rebuild a bit."

"If you told me you couldn't fix these bikes, I would say that that's really too bad – but that we're just gonna have to find something else to do. Besides, Tess probably would have bugged you to hang out with me."

"You've got that right."

"Is that Sam Uley?" Bella asked as she saw the group on top of the cliff. As soon as she pointed them out both Jacob and Tessa's entire attitude changed. In fact, Tessa sat up right almost instantly and Jacob squeezed her hand to reassure her.

"Yeah."

"Him and his cult." Jacob finished when Tessa confirmed it for Bella. They watched as they wrestled, and eventually pushed one of them off the cliff. Whilst Jacob and Tessa took it for what it was, Bella panicked and pulled the car over almost instantly.

"Oh my god! Did you see that?"

"Bella?" Tessa called, as she ran across the road to get a better look. It was almost like the Swan girl couldn't hear her so she and Jacob quickly got out. As they did, Jacob couldn't help but laugh at Bella's panic.

"They're not really fighting, Bella – they're cliff diving. Scary as hell, but a total rush. Not that Tessie here would know anything about that."

"Well, I'm sorry that I don't think jumping into open water is a good idea." Tessa rolled her eyes and nudged Jacob as she laughed a little. He was still trying to convince her to go cliff jumping with her once at the very least.

"A rush?"

"Most of us jump from lower down. We leave the showing off to Sam and his disciples."
