Chapter 8 - Operative in Training
The woman at the front desk who I introduced myself to called attention to the front of the class, causing everyone who was gawking at Maya to turn around, shock still plastered on their faces.
"Well as you all now know, we have a new student who is a little older than most of you but will soon catch up. And, by the looks on your faces and Grace kindly shouting at the top of her lungs, you know she's MayaLake but that will make no difference to how we treat her here at training quarters or anywhere around Ahsalom. So if you could open your textbooks and we will have a quick run through of what we have learnt so far. Oh and Maya I'm your History teacher, Ms Patrone"
To Maya's surprise no students groaned but got on with what they were told to do leaving Maya in a confused state.
Phoenix
I hated lying to Maya, I thought I would have to now she knows about this place, but well... I guess I'm not lying, I'm just not stating all the facts. Yeah, I'm just going to have to think that for now, it won't be long until she knows. She's bound to find out sooner or later, just wish it'd be later, much later-
"Phoenix!" My Freelance partner, and best friend, Aden shouted, "Hey Phoenix, you heard?"
"About...?" I questioned
"Only what everyone is talking about. MayaLake!"
"Oh"
"What do you mean 'oh'? I heard she's quite a looker."
"I mean 'oh' as in I already know, and lay off her I know what you can be like."
"You-what? When? How? Why?
"You heard, and to answer your other questions remember I was assigned a side mission to do? Well that was looking out for Maya, we got some history so I guess they thought I was the one for the job. I'm also the one that brought her here, and we're good friends and I'll introduce you two... as friends, so don't have any ideas."
"W-wow" Aden stuttered.
"Yeah, come on lets get to freelance."
"Oh wait. Haven't you heard?"
"We've had that conversation"
"No, I mean, we have a mission, a genuine mission, tomorrow, so today's a prep day and we finish with Fitness." That had to be the best news I've heard all day, and to top it off I get to have Fitness with Maya, now that's going to be fun.
Maya
"Why were people staring at me? And what does she mean me not being 'treated differently'? What's going on? Grace?"
"y-you mean you don't know? I guess Mrs Faewald will tell you." She answered flicking her blond hair out of her ice-blue eyes that looked concerned, then after seeing my face she added "its nothing bad, its just, well your family's famous and after being in this lesson I guess you'll find out how famous they really are."
"Oh, gee." I answered unsure what to say. I mean when you find out your family's famous, but then realise you'll be under a pressured spot light for the rest of your life. Well, there are no words to sum it up. "Who's Mrs Faewald?" I asked when I absorbed what she first said.
"She's the High Leader."
History passed quick, too quick. I used to hate history, well who wants to know about kings and diseases and, ok I guess it's a little interesting but school's history lessons were just boring, but not here! It's a whole other history about the agencies rivalry between Ahsalom and Renaissance. It was a little awkward when supposed previous family relatives of my kept popping up so everyone would glance my way now and then as if I knew them personally, but overall it was really interesting. Especially when the teacher hinted things like that the agency was the one who invented the Trojan horse, but that it wasn't meant for harm but to get through the oppositions guard. Impressive eh?
Training quarters got even better during the next lesson, decoding, which wasn't too hard to find as there is only C Hall which is the front hall, A Hall which part of the back hall which is to the right of the dorm staircases and the Fitness suite which too, was down the back hall. Decoding was amazing! No, I'm serious! We got to learn how to pick locks, break safes and we started to learn how to write Ahsalom's own covert code messaging, which was a little hard but I do like a challenge.
Now it was time for Self Defence, which I thought sounded like fun so I was literally bouncing on my feet on the way there with Grace.
"So, is it as fun as it sounds?" I asked her
"Definitely, though we get partnered up so we might not be lucky as we have been to get paired with each other, fingers crossed, but everyone's alright in our class so I'm sure you'll be friends with who ever you're with"
As we entered the teacher looked up from his desk in the corner of what looked like a small gym room with cushioned mats taking up most of the floor of the room.
"You must be Maya," he said walking towards me with a hand out "Im Tom, were all on first name terms in this class" he said after I shook it. "Quickly get changed, you will find your gym clothes in the locker with your name on it in the girls changing room then take a seat on the floor mats with the rest of the class and ill run through today's lesson with you all."
After we sat down he did exactly that telling us we were going to go through the basic self defence moves and then he paired us up by calling out names. I knew I weren't with grace as being at the top of the register with the surname Evangeline she was one of the first to be picked.
"Sophie and Drake,"
"Olivia and Jonathon," he continued
"Maya and Luke,"
I turned to see who stood up only to be disappointed. NO WAY! Jerk. It turned out it was the honey brown haired guy from history, great. Not only did I get a bad first impression of him but he just stood their smirking at me whilst waiting for me to get up.
"Any time now..." he huffed.
Great i thought sarcastically and then I rolled my eyes and followed him to an empty space.
"Ok to start off we're going to do some role-play, guys your going to be the attacker, girls your going to follow my lead whilst I demonstrate with one of the lads. Then we'll swap over. First of all guys you need to grab your victim around the waist and don't let go." Tom instructed us, and then I jumped as I felt a pair of arms behind me circling my waist.

I know i said i was going to do a big chapter, and i did but it wouldn't have been finished until sunday or even monday, so instead i cut it off here (tiny cliffhanger) and the rest will be posted as chapter 9 which should been done asap. (Fingers crossed as i have lots of homework. Yawn, but i gotta do it.)
