I breathe your name, my lips and tongue forming
two syllables I adore repeating,
those sounds I worship are pure confession,
an aria that I love performing,
a theme recurring without depleting,
no fleeting yearning or brief obsession -
but love, my Love; a love that shall survive:
Vagaries, struggles, libido troubles,
cultural variance, dosh and ageing -
It's never easy to keep love alive,
that first flush, the rush of streaming bubbles
popped one by one by silence or raging;
I know, I know and yet, I feel certain,
our love has the grain to weather all hurts.

*The Kauri can be found in both Australia and New Zealand. It is an imposing, evergreen tree that can live for thousands of years being insect, infection and rot-resistant. Its wood is a beautiful golden or buttery colour and very fine and straight in grain. Kauri have been found in streams and billabongs where they have been immersed for aeons and yet, they have not rotted. It is becoming quite rare now and is highly valued in Oz.
