The bonfire is in full swing by the time we get there. There is music blasting from some speakers decked up beside a hastily put-together table where a DJ stands doing his thing. I notice a van where drinks seem to be flowing from. Students are scattered around in little groups, chatting, dancing, drinking, and some eating snacks they brought along with them else. There is a makeshift dancefloor at the centre of the clearing a few feet from the bonfire, but right now, no one is dancing.

The populars are closer to the fire and every one else seems to settle at different distances around them. It reminds me of our solar system. The bonfire is the sun and the populars are mercury. Then there are the other planets, whatever their names are, at different distances from the sun and mercury, based on their relevance, I think. I notice Olivia in the arms of a boy laughing at something he is saying. She glares at me when she sees me, but I just walk away. Girl, I didn't come here for you tonight.

Violet and I scan the crowds for Matt. We find him with Sam in the far end corner, mingling with the shadows. Looks like they decided to be Pluto.

"Hey, where are your crop tops?" I ask, eliciting a laugh from everyone as we observe each other's outfits. I and Violet dressed up in matching black crop tops on blue jeans. We notice the boys are wearing black t-shirts on jeans as well. What a coincidence that we are all matching. We settle down on the grass and get talking.

"You ladies want anything?" Sam asks after a while, as he stands up.

"Aww, a perfect gentleman" Violet says with a hand on her chest. "A fruit punch will be fine. Thank you, Sam,"

He looks at me. Is it me or does his gaze linger? "Same" I tell him, and he walks off with Matt to get the drinks.

"I think he likes you" Violet teases.

"Oh Please" I roll my eyes and laugh it off. I sometimes forget that Sam is Matt and Violet's friend too. He rarely comes to the diner, so I only see him occasionally during lunch at school. He isn't bad looking at all, like most guys in Twinhills, but I am not feeling him like that.

They come back with the drinks, and we talk about random things while we sip. The DJ puts on a popular dance track and almost everyone gets up to dance by the fire. They totally forgot someone had set up a makeshift dance floor by putting tarp in the floor – I wonder why they even bothered. Violet makes it to the fire, Matt soon follows, and then Sam. I am not in the mood to dance so I sit where I am and watch them have fun. I chuckle when I notice Matt and Violet unconsciously gravitating towards each other. I see you besties, but go on and keep pretending.

After some time, they come back with two more people, a boy and a girl, who introduce themselves as Chase and Amy. Everyone sits down and conversation resumes. Chase pulls out a blunt.

"What are you doing? The teachers can see you." Violet whispers looking around.

He scoffs. "Please, the last thing they want to do is watch a couple of silly teenagers. They're having a beer or two in a corner right now, who cares. Besides they said no drugs, not no weed"

"They said no weed too" Violet insists. "And news flash, marijuana is a drug."

"Oh really, I didn't hear" he shrugs. "Don't worry, I won't ruin your perfect reputation. He lights up the blunt and drags on it then pulls out two more and offers them to us. I and Violet decline. Matt takes one and Sam takes the other. Violet gasps dramatically. I wouldn't say I am not surprised too.

"Not enough but we can share" Amy purrs as she grabs Chase's blunt with two fingers and takes a drag. Matt and Sam were puffing out smoke as well.

"You smoke?" I ask Matt.
