I'm not exaggerating when I say that being among different nationalities at school is similar to hogwarts.
There are the japanese from all over Japan that unite and live in their small private world, their own cafeteria table and group of friends. There are like 5 Russians around but we also, more or less, have an understanding of each other that is beyond the reach of those that aren't like us. When it comes to foreign issues or news or whatever, it is almost directly associated with the people from that particular place. Of course, I'm not trying to stereotype but whenever someone talks about Hiroshima bombing during history or the new manga that came out, you know that the japanese already know all there is about it (at least most of them).
Fortunately, this doesn't set a competitive or condensending atmosphere at all. Rather, it feels like people all over the worlds are meeting or going to school on a neutral ground, each proud to represent their country.
Sorry if this sounded a little childish hehe.
