Twenty-eighth Verse

Where are we going?
I don't know anymore...
-translated from “Foolish Love”
from Future Colors' second mini-album Rainbow/Sadness

----------------------------------------------------

Minha was awakened at the unholy hour of 6:00 a.m. by his phone.

“Jeon Minha-sshi?” a voice brightly inquired in response to his grumpy “Yes?”

“This is Lee Gongju of BD Entertainment,” the voice continued. “Did I wake you up? I'm sorry if I'm calling a little early, but I wanted to be sure to catch you first thing in the morning. I would like a few minutes of your time.”

“No, thank you,” Minha answered hoarsely. “Goodbye.” He was about to end the call when the voice-- belonging to a director of BD Ent., the corporate kind not the production kind, if he remembered correctly-- stated, “Oh, I think you should talk to us. We heard you need another agency.”

Minha held the phone away from his ear and squinted bleary-eyed at it, wondering if the other person was high on drugs or something.

“After all, you are about to be kicked out of Future Colors, aren't you?” the phone squawked. “And you are injured. BD Ent. will advance you the expenses for your medical treatment and everything-- you just need to come over and work for us. We can give you a solo career if you don't want to be with a group anymore.”

“I'm sorry, but as I already said, no,” Minha told it. Jungkyu was already awake in the bunk opposite; he sat up and stared at Minha, his eyebrows raised.

“You can't really make a decision this fast,” Director Lee's voice went on. “Why don't we meet up? You're out of the hospital already, right? Perhaps today-- your schedule's free these days, after all.”

“I'm sorry but I'm really rather busy. Goodbye, director,” Minha said firmly, and ended the call.

“BD Ent?” Jungkyu frowned.

“I wonder why they want me,” Minha said.

“Huh. Do you even need to ask?” his friend retorted. “But weren't you rather rude with him? You might need to be on his good side later on.”

“Well, he obviously didn't know where I am-- he assumed I'm in Korea, and I wasn't going to set him straight,” Minha answered. “And somehow I thought Jae sunbae and President Kang wouldn't appreciate it if I said 'No, thank you, my schedule's not free because I'm working on another Future Colors album, thankyouverymuch'.”

“Heh, you're right,” said Jungkyu.

“We are making another album, right?”

“Well, as long as you're already awake...”

“Shut up. I'm going back to sleep. It's just after dawn.” Minha rolled over to face the wall.

He lay there for some time, staring at the blue-flecked paint, remembering what had happened the night before. Bea had looked stricken as he left the room but he was too disappointed and embarrassed to turn back. How would they even face each other today?

Something hit him right between the shoulder blades. He groped behind him and found a cushion, and turned back over indignantly.

“Stop that. Even your back is cringing,” Jungkyu said. “How about an early-morning run? I'll wake the others.”

Minha grumbled but after the maknaes pulled him out of bed he put on his sweats and followed them downstairs just in time to catch Jae sunbae and Shingu sunbae on their way out.
