An altar is personal and, thus, requires much customization. Here are some ideas for your altar:
Foundation: use a plate, tray, scarf, slab of marble or wood, the floor, table, or shelf to set up your altar
Personal Elements: Rocks, crystals, gems, flowers, fruit, jewelry, and sacred items (family heirlooms, gifts from treasured ones, etc...). These can all be placed in your altar to personalize.
Symbols:
Photos of loved ones, deities, or other inspirations. Pictures, posters, paintings, or other representations can be placed to symbolize an idol. Or, you can have geometric based symbols, such as yin and yang or the pentagram. Sigils are also a great idea to incorporate.
