iv. creek

trickling eddy waters

stream between my toes

as i stand beside him

navy pants rolled up

as he gazes into the murk

trying to catch crayfish

his face bright pink

sunburnt and embarrassed

as i tease him for his

inability to catch anything

this whole afternoon as

fairy flies flit under

the fading midday light

suddenly he dart forwards

sighting a shadow in the murk

but slips into the brook

and as i wade towards him

he emerges out laughing

with a mud-streaked shirt

and a handful of water

with a mischievous twinkle

sparkling between his smiles

and throws it on me

drenching my striped shirt

revenge for making fun of him

so then i sling water at him

and he splashes me with a wave

soaking my blurry glasses

and soon the water is churning

foam fizzling around us

our glistening hair slicked back

smiles filled with river water

wrestling each other down

in blankets of cerulean

and i wish i could frame

this figment of a memory of us two

just two guys having fun

under carefree spring lights

as spires of redwood tower

over this less lonely creek

sweet pine and sunflare skies

earthy riverbed aroma wafting

near my healing heart
