Today I'm gonna share my experience when I started with Apache Cassandra... If you consider the case study of Digg: How Digg migrated their friends+diggs data set to Cassandra from MYSQL, here is the explanation.

Digg implemented their new badges feature in Cassandra, a distributed, structured key-value store. Digg adopted a traditional vertically distributed master-slave configuration with MySQL, and investigated sharding (type of database partitionin) MySQL. In the case of the traditional architecture, Cassandra has a masterless "ring" which is easy to set up and to maintain.

Since it was necessary to strand data normalization and consistency to make these methodologies work. Digg adopted to comfortable with non-relational data stores. With the consideration of HBase, Voldemort, Cassandra, Hypertable, Tokyo Cabinet/Tyrant, and Dynomite, finally migrated on to Cassandra.
Every system has its own pros and cons, but Cassandra has a good blend of all. It offers Data Partitioning, Consistent Hashing, Data Replication, Eventual & Tunable Consistency, Gossip Protocol to discover nodes, Keyspace, Column & Row -oriented data storage, so you have a bit more structure than plain key/value stores. It operates in a distributed, highly available, Cluster/Ring. 
When an item is dugg, Digg asynchronously populates Cassandra. This operation fetches the list of followers of the digging user, and every column is inserted at once, atomically in each of their buckets, under a second.

Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, Nina finds a close friend in the drool-worthy Schwann. Everything is going on perfectly; except for a pack of man-killer cyborg wolves, an insanely powerful rival-in-battle, whose aim in life seems to be throwing challenge after challenge at Nina, and the Senior Troublemaker of the School's latest game :- 'Set fire to a pile of straw'. Well, that's not much, after all, what can a pile of straw do? Nothing, unless there's a stack of fireworks underneath. And that's the least of her worries when Nina's fallen head over heels for Schwann. This is a work of fiction, and the characters introduced are purely fictional. Any resemblance in name or character is unintentional. Just sayin' since this is basically my first story using normal names and settings. The story is currently a one shot. Citizens of Cores no longer age once they upload their minds into the virtual living system of the Core. While they didn't age, most still choose to cycle through life and death though at a different scale of time compared to our lives. Citizens can visit other planets and live there as if they were on a "vacation". Mercury is Earth's hub connected to the closest Core and Earth is a remote vacation spot for wealthy citizens. When the main character was 10 he witnessed a citizen returning to the Core. The story continues 10 odd years later when he again witnesses a similar situation unfolding and manages to touch the person returning to the Core. This causes him to be swept up in the transfer as well and for his mind to join as a "Guest" user of the Core. As a Guest he has limited powers, a starting balance of zero cr or Citizen credits, and no idea how he can get home. He is the first human to ever become a Guest of a Core. Where money itself is the highest form of their science.
