He's always known they didn't really care. After all, who would care about someone like him. Even so, he didn't think they would take things that far. He had overheard them discussing his approaching death. They planned on him dying during his fight with Voldemort, and them taking is fame and fortune. They had already begun draining his vaults. They have been feeding him love potions to make him fall in love with Ginny so she would inherit everything when he died. 

Dumbledore has put him with the Dursley's in hopes he would be abused and come to Hogwarts eager to please the one who 'saved' him. 

When he was beaten nearly to death the summer after his fifth year by his uncle, he escaped and went to the house on Spinners End he had heard of only briefly during a conversation with Sirius earlier that year.

He knew that the man would be the only one to not report straight back to either Dumbledore, or Voldemort. The man was completely unaware of his true relation to the boy, and he planned to keep it that way. He didn't plan to stick around long anyway, just long enough to get to safety.

Things weren't supposed to turn out like this, but things tend to get out of control for the boy who lived, and he didn't know where else to go.

This is going to be set in the summer before fifth year at Hogwart's. Harry was then left to rely on the only person that was willing to help him and that was 'Alastor Moody' aka Barty Crouch Jr. As Harry was getting the help of an actual adult that cared for him and seemed like he wanted him to survive they got closer. Barty soon told Harry everything but Harry didn't really care mainly because at least they had never lied to him or with held information form him. So while it got closer to the last task Harry was real close friends with Barty and they had already brought Voldemort back to his former glory of Tom Riddle. Tom and Barty had found out that Harry was Tom's accidental Horcrux they couldn't really fix it without killing Harry and as it was they both thought of him as their family. So when that last task arrived Harry didn't take the cup but Cedric did and he had won while Harry and Barty had 'mysteriously' disappeared. They both arrived with there things in front of Gringott's with Tom already waiting on them and this is where the story begins.

Voldermort rose in Draco Malfoy's 3rd. At the end of the year. They did not know why or how or what happened. They had been attempting it, Draco knew despite his father's tight lips. Yet, the process had not gone as planned. It was the soul from the diary that had returned, not the 20-odd year old that they had been expecting. This came with...complications. Tom Riddle was 16. Ideally, he would go to hogwarts in order to recruit those that would remain loyal to only him. Sure he had the remnants that his older self had recruited, but Tom did not know them, and furthermore, he doubted the viability of many of them. So he uses them, but he wants more loyal followers, and as such he needs to go to Hogwarts. Quite a decent foundation for such things. Using the young Draco Malfoy, molding him, grooming him, he would fool Albus Dumbledore, gain access to Hogwarts, and then he would begin his recruitment process. If he found his mate, became a bit too attached (obsessed) , and started another feud, well all part of the process he supposed. There were other issues as well. With Remus Lupin, the werewolf, still teaching, and the favoritism amongst the students, they had some work to do, but it was nothing Tom couldn't handle.
