He didn't rush.
He *stalked* toward her-slow, measured steps, like a predator that already knew its prey had nowhere to run. The space between them shrank with suffocating inevitability, each second stretching tighter than the last.
"Noor..."
Her name rolled off his tongue in a deep, controlled murmur-yet it hit her like a spark against dry skin. A shiver ran down her spine, sharp and unwilling.
She didn't move.
Didn't blink.
Didn't give him the satisfaction.
And then he was there.
Close enough that she could feel his presence before she could even process it. Close enough that the air itself felt heavier.
He leaned in.
His breath ghosted over her ear, warm and deliberate.
"You seem... very interested in my business," he whispered, his voice darker now, edged with something dangerous. "When you should be worrying about an entire state."
Silence.
But not weakness.
Her fingers curled slightly at her sides, nails digging into her palm as she held herself still.
He exhaled softly-almost amused.
"Say something, Miss Noor..." he murmured, his lips barely inches from her skin. "Or should I call you-"
A pause.
Intentional.
Cruel.
"Mrs. Noor Kian Malik?"
That did it.
Her head snapped toward him, eyes blazing-no longer calm, no longer distant. Fire burned in them, raw and unapologetic. Her blood surged, anger rising so violently it drowned everything else.
For a moment, it wasn't fear in her veins.
