The next morning arrives as Kanna wakes up and yawns
She walks out and sees y/n waiting
Kanna:Good morning Y/n...were you waiting for me?
Y/n:Not all night obviously...
He pats her head
Y/n:Yea...sorry if that's weird...
Kanna:No it's fine,thank you y/n...
Y/n gives a bright smile
Y/n:Thanks kid...
Kanna:I'm excited for the first day...
Y/n:I was too...
Kanna:How was school for you y/n...
Y/n looks at her with a bitter smile
Y/n:Lets....let's just worry about you Kanna...
Kanna sees his sadness and doesnt push further onto the topic
She runs and grabs her backpack but notices its heavier
Y/n:I went through the list of your school stuff and organized it all in your backpack for you...I even put all the keychains on for you...
She opens it up
Kanna:You did this?
Y/n:Yea,why?
Kanna:It looks too neat to be organized by you...
Y/n:What's that supposed to mean...
Kanna:Your not usually like this is all...
Y/n:I'm always organized!
Kanna opens y/n's door and shows how messy it is
Kanna:Observe...
Y/n:Hey,listen here! I'm paying for this house meaning I can treat my room however I please!
Kanna:Your setting a bad example for me...
Y/n:Well....I...
He has no words or comeback,he's accepted defeat...
Kanna:I win...
Y/n:Damn it kid....I'll clean it later...
Kanna:I'm just joking y/n...
Y/n:No your right...I should be setting a better example for you...
Kanna walks to the door
Kanna:So are we walking?
Y/n:I got something even better...
Kanna:Your're gonna turn into a dragon and fly me there?
Y/n:Well I can't do that but,I have the next best thing!
He opens the door as a brand new car is waiting with the driver seat door open
Kanna's eyes sparkle
Kanna:Is this ours?
Y/n:Yup...
He pulls out the keys
Y/n:Wanna start it up for me?
Kanna:Really?!
Y/n:You know it kid...
He hands her the keys as she jumps into the front seat
Kanna:How do I start it?
Y/n:You place the key in the slot and twist it...
She follows y/n's instructions as the car turns on...
Kanna:Woah...can I drive?
Y/n:Maybe I'll teach you some other time but I need to take you to school okay?
Kanna hops onto the back seat and figures out how to buckle up
Y/n gets in
Y/n:Buckled up?
Kanna:Yup!
Y/n:Good! Safety first!
He starts to drive
Y/n:It'll only take a few minutes Kanna...
Kanna:Aww,I kinda wanted to talk...
Y/n is slient for a bit
Y/n:If you ever want to talk about anything Kanna,I'll drop everything I'm doing for you okay?
Kanna:Really?
Y/n nods
Y/n:Even if you think its stupid,that means I can give you a stupid answer too...then we'll both look stupid together...
Kanna smiles
A few minutes go by
Y/n:Well we're here kid...
He parks and gets out as he opens the door for Kanna
Kanna:Thanks...
She jumps out with her backpack as they start walk
As they walk y/n feels something touch his hand
He looks down and sees Kanna holding his hand
He smiles as they continue walking
But as they get closer to the school her grip on y/n's hand tightens
They stop at the entrance with the teacher greeting other students at the door
Kanna:I'm scared y/n...
Y/n kneels down
Y/n:You'll be fine Kanna...
Kanna:Promise?
Y/n puts out his pinky
Y/n:Pinky promise...
She puts out her pinky too as they pinky swear
She turns around to walk as y/n watches her
She turns around and hugs him
Kanna:Are you gonna pick me up too?
Y/n:Definitely...
She releases the hug as she goes to the front door as she greets the teacher
Kanna turns around and waves at y/n before heading inside
He whispers quietly to himself
Y/n:See ya kid...
He turns around as he heads to his car and drives home
When he enters the house Kobayashi sitting down on the couch with her arms crossed
Y/n:I just dropped Kanna off...
Kobayashi:Don't you think your spoiling her?
He speaks as he hangs his keys up
Y/n:If anything I'm not doing enough for her...
Kobayashi:Y/n's it's not right to just drop and give her everything she wants...
Y/n:Thats where your wrong...a kid shouldn't have to worry about their caretaker not having a car...
He raises his voice slightly
Y/n:A kid shouldn't have to feel like they arent good enough because they don't have anything cool like everything else...
Kobayashi:Y/n...
Y/n:A kid shouldn't feel like they can't ask their parents for something or ask them about something,they should feel comfortable asking those questions,not avoiding them...
Kobayashi:Y/n I know your parents....
Y/n:You knew my parents...there're gone Kobayashi...and you know that...
Kobayashi gets up
Kobayashi:Look y/n I'm sorry...
She gently hugs him
Y/n:As a caretaker I want Kanna to have everything I didn't,so if she wants something,shes gonna get it one way or another,even if I have to work unimaginable hours,her smile is what makes it worth it in the end...
Kobayashi just hugs y/n gently
Y/n:Where's Tohru?
Kobayashi:She went out to get groceries...
Elsewhere,Tohru laughs while hiding in a tree spying on Kanna
Later
Y/n:I'm gonna head out and pick up Kanna from school...
Kobayashi:Its early...
Y/n:I want to be first...
Tohru:Bye y/n!
He walks out the door and walks to the car and heads over to the school
When he arrives he smiles
Y/n:Welp I'm early...
He gets out of the car and waits outside the school for Kanna
The bell rings as school ends
Kanns runs out of the door full speed and sees y/n
She runs to him before stopping in front of him
She looks like she's about to cry
Y/n:What's wrong?
Kanna:I missed you!
Y/n:Hey...
She looks up at him teary eyed
Y/n:I'm never gonna leave you kid...and im always gonna be here okay?
She wipes her tears as she jumps into y/n's chest and hugs him
Kanna releases the hug
She smiles before grabbing y/n's hand and walks to the car to go home
Y/n:How was the first day...?
Kanna:Well I was scared at first and I missed you,but I did my best...
Y/n:At the end of the day kid that's all we can do ..just do our best and hope for the best...
Kanna:I guess...
They continue to drive home and when they arrive Kanna is bombarded by questions from Tohru
Y/n:Its her first day Tohru,give her a break...
Tohru:Right sorry...
Kobayashi:Well I hope it went well...
Kanna:Thank you guys...
She tugs on y/n's shirt
Kanna:Y/n you wanna color with me?
Y/n:I'd love too...
She drags him before opening her backpack and taking out a coloring book with colored pencils...
Kanna:Let's get started...
They spend a few hours coloring
Kobayashi and Tohru helped color a few pictures too
Y/n looks outside and sees its getting dark
Y/n:Alright Kanna time for bed...
Kanna:Okay...
She gets up
Kanna:Wait!
She goes into her backpack and pulls out a paper
Y/n:What's that?
Kanna:Its a picture if all of us together like a family!
Y/n looks at it and smiles
Kanna:We're all a family right?
Y/n:Of course we are! As a matter of fact I'm gonna hang this up right now!
Kanna:Really?
Y/n:But it's a little high,do you think you can help?
Kanna nods enthusiastically
Y/n hands her a stapler
Y/n:Try not to staple my hand this time...
Kanna just laughs as y/n lifts her up to put the picture where everyone can see it
Kanna gives y/n the stapler as he puts on a nearby table
Y/n carries Kanna to her bed
He places her down and gently tucks her in
Y/n:Good night Kanna...
Kanna:Good night y/n...
He turns off the light
Kanna:Uhhh y/n?
Y/n:Yea?
Kanna:I just wanted to let you know... your the best...
Y/n just looks at her,a bit surprised
Y/n:Nah I'm nothing special,but you...
He smiles
