Cassie's POV
It was a normal day. I come home from training, leaving my boots at the door, and walk over to mom, giving her a kiss on the cheek. Except it wasn't a normal day. Mom was on the phone. 'Now, what's odd about that?' You ask. It's not the fact that mom was on the phone that was odd. It was the fact that she was about to cry that made it weird. My mom never cries.
I set my back pack down next to the near by recliner before taking a seat in it. I must have had a confused look on my face because as soon as mom ends the call, she starts talking.
"That was your grandpa. He called to tell me that him and mom finally got the divorce. Babe, he wants us to come for a visit." She says after hesitating for a moment.
"Mom. Can you handle that? Is He gonna be there?" I ask referring to the alpha of the pack. Or at least he was when mom left with me. She was 1 month pregnant and he was supposed to be her mate, however he rejected her. He hurt my mom and I don't want her around him.
"Yes I can handle it. Besides it will be good for you to meet your grandfather and Uncle. And last time I checked, He was still alpha, so he will probably be there." She said with a chuckle.
"Why does your dad suddenly want to be in our lives?" I ask completely confused. "He couldn't stand the thought of being around us for 17 years, and now he suddenly wants to be there. Why?"
"He wasn't the one who- you know what, we can talk about it later. Can you go pack and call in so they know you aren't gonna be at training."
"Yes ma'am." I say walking away irritated. "Hey. I love you."
"I love you too, baby girl."
I go upstairs and start packing, mostly tank tops, and start making calls. Before too long, I'm packed and have called off of training for the next 2 weeks.
"When do we leave?"
"Tomorrow at noon. He wants to see me as soon as possible." My mom said not looking at me.
"Does he know I exists?" I ask my mom trying to catch her eyes.
"Well... no but I didn't tell anybody. He rejected me and my mom disowned me. I just never got the chance to tell anybody from there." She said still not meeting my eyes.
"I get it. Hey I'm gonna go for a run. I'll be back before midnight." I say slipping my shoes on. Running always helped me relieve stress and i need that right now. I get why mom didn't tell anyone about me, but the thought of seeing Him just makes my skin crawl. I've heard so much about Him. That he was cruel when he got angry and that he was a player. I can't stand the thought of that man around my mom.
As I run through the forest of the pack territory, I hear the stream nearby. I stop by it and take off my shoes. The most relaxing thing I can think of is sitting in the woods with my feet in a stream. So that's exactly what I do. Laying back, I close my eyes and take a deep breath. The moment I close my eyes I see a pair of eyes looking back at me. I know these are my mates.
A werewolf has one mate. If, like my mother, your mate rejects you, you have the chance to be paired again. The moon goddess, Luna, is a very considerate being. She understands heartbreak. If, like my mother, you choose not to find a new mate, your mate will forever be tied to you. Before you meet your mate, however, you see their eyes for a month before you meet them. I've been seeing them for a couple of weeks now, so I should meet him soon.
I know I dosed off because when I reopened my eyes the day had dramatically changed. Moments like these are the ones where I'm glad I wear shorts and tank tops for training. I hadn't changed yet so if I tan, the lines shouldn't be too visible.
I get up and put my socks and shoes back on and head back home. Looking at my watch I see that it's only 10:25, but I'm hungry and we're having the alpha over for dinner. I know I'm probably late, but I'm more relaxed and usually dinner with the alpha gets tense. There's never really a reason, it just does.
I walk up and see the alphas truck already here, however, it's still warm so they haven't been here long. When I walk in I see them sitting on the couch talking to mom. I nod to them and go upstairs to shower and change. It's take roughly 5 minutes to do the afore mentioned and, after changing into a tank top and some shorts, I head back down stairs. I'm quickly greeted and we all sit around the table.
"So, Alpha Liam, I was contacted by my father and would like your permission to go visit the Black moon pack. My father and mother divorced and he would like a chance to get to know me after all these years apart. I would of course take Cassie with me and let her meet her grandfather and uncle." My mother says with the utmost respect.
Liam looks at my mother and then to his wife, Lilly, whose eyes have swallowed her head. She looks from my mother to me and back to mom before speaking.
"Ari, darling, are you sure you're gonna be able to go there without being in extreme pain? You know what could happen right?" Lilly says looking at my mother with a deep look of concern. Though they were basically the same age, Lilly had been a better mother than my own grandmother. I like to think of her as my aunt and she never disagreed. She actually encouraged it.
"I assure you I am fully aware of what could happen and am prepared. I know I can handle it with Cas at my side." My mom said.
"Does He know she exists?" Alpha Liam ask looking at my mother with caution.
"He does not. She'll be 18 in less than a year and can decide if she wants him to be in her life. I won't stop her." My mother said still using her business voice.
"I don't." I say quickly knowing they heard me.
"Then I have no objections to you visiting your brother and father. On one condition." Alpha Liam says.
"Yes?" Me and mom say in sync.
"The Hidden moon pack house is less than 30 minutes away from the Black moon pack house. I would much prefer you stay there. I know the previous alpha and his son has taken over. They would gladly accommodate you." He says looking at me and my mother with his hand of Aunt Lilly's.
"Of course, alpha." My mom says.
"Then you have my permission. When do plan on leaving?" He asks a little more at peace.
"Tomorrow at noon." Mom says.
"We'll be there to wish you off. Please do be safe dear." Alpha Lilly says.
"I always am." My mom says hugging her.
Dinner passes by rather quick and the adults talk over coffee, but I head off to bed dreaming about a beautiful pair of eyes.
