It was just another day in the spring; the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, the—

...

No no no, hold on, that's too cheesy. Let's fast forward it a bit.

You walked through the busy streets, watching as honking cars drove by, sending a breeze through your hair. The sidewalk had a few people, including you, walking along. There were several teenagers riding on skateboards and other younger kids riding bikes with their parents, you even saw someone walking their dog—immediately stopping to give it a few pets—before you quickly went back to walking.

Where you're heading? One of the best diners in town, duh! Boys & Grills! Well- to you it was one of the best. It was one of the only, to be fair.

You opened the door and instantly took in the usual scent of grease and cooked meat, you had gotten used to the aroma the first few times you came. You exhaled as the door shut behind you, before approaching the front counter.

"Welcome t' Boys 'n Grills, how may ah—" you heard the usual deep, southern voice you knew and loved. It was Bob, the owner of the establishment. The sweet guy always treated you to a good meal, he even gave you free dessert on good days.
You knew it was probably for the tips, but he was so excessive with it, the first couple weeks you two were friends, you couldn't help but think it was hinting at something more. But you shouldn't assume things just yet, should you?

You noticed he hadn't finished his sentence, he walked to the cashier to get a good look at your face, to which you got a good look at him.

He looked the same as always; dirty and uplifted. His apron was covered in grease stains definitively a couple weeks old, and his blue t-shirt looked the same as the one he wore yesterday. His oily black hair was in that mullet you knew all too well, his pale skin glistened with sweat. His warm, brown eyes were filled with contentment, as his wide, crooked smile grew with a passing moment.

"Oh, Y/N! Darlin', oh, it's been a minute. Cmon, sit, sit," Bob spoke with enthusiasm, as he motioned you to a stool.

You threw yourself onto the red stool, and leaned your upper-half against the counter.

"How're things? Yer' family all'ight?" he asked kindly, you could swear you've never seen him that happy. The smile on his face looked almost too big for his cheeks.

"They're just fine, Bob," you said with a small smile plastered on your face, you felt so giddy all of a sudden. A little throbbing formed in your chest, was it just chest pain? No matter.

"Aight, the usual?" he asked before he turned walk back into the kitchen. You nodded in response, "one cheeseburger 'n large fries comin' right up! Y' jus' stay right 'ere, cutie."

Cutie.

Cutie.

Cutie.

God, how it gave you butterflies when he called you that.

There were other customers around you, a lot more than the amount that would usually be around. Well...to be fair, it was a Saturday. People must be too busy to cook for themselves.

"Oi, buddy! Where's my burger?!" you heard an older man from a seat somewhere further away from you, he was probably around Bob's age.

"It'll be out in a second, sir! Aye, Rick! Can ya get tha'?!" you heard Bob call out from the kitchen, to which you heard a deep, monotone "okay" come from the grill beside Bob's.

It was a man you've never seen here before. He had warm ivory skin, and toasted brown hair—probably held up in gel. He was a bit shorter than Bob, but still taller than you by several inches. He wore a uniform identical to Bob's, except it was ever so slightly cleaner.

Rick flipped a slab of cooked meat onto a bun, as well as some other ingredients, that included what you would usually put in a burger. He put it on a plate and placed it in front of the man that yelled just earlier.

"Finally, some food," the stranger grumbled, unable to meet Rick's eyes as he took a bite into his well-cooked burger.

You looked over at Rick, who seemed to just be done with everything already. Maybe he was new here? You were curious. Would it be rude to ask?

"Hey, uh... This your first day?" your curiosity hit the best of you, as you spoke with a nervous smile.

Rick looked over at you with the same unfazed expression.

"Yes," he muttered, he looked down at his shoes before back up at you. He was just...standing there, menacingly. (I'm so sorry-)
He was staring right into your soul, as if he knew your past, present, and your future.

Your thoughts were immediately interrupted to the sound of Bob's voice, as well as the abrupt noise of a plate clanging against the counter.

"A cheeseburger 'n some fries fer the lovely cutie~" he said with a teasing smirk, he gave you a small wink.

You couldn't help but blush intensely...two large men? Right in front of you? It was like a dream come true.

"Y' want anythin' t' drink, dollface?" Bob asked you flirtatiously as he looked deeply into your eyes.

Instantly feeling that pit in your stomach being filled with butterflies, you answered with nervous tension.

"Uh... [favorite drink], please," you murmured shyly. If you could sink any further into your stool, you'd definitely be emerged by now.

Bob nodded with a giddy grin, before he quickly went off to fetch you your beverage. Whilst Rick went to help with another customer, walking slowly and awkwardly. He just looked so tired.

You, however, were another fucking story.

Why were you so nervous? Why are you suddenly getting so flustered over Bob's simple actions as if they were something completely new? Why were you so interested in Rick? Why are you so red? Why are you so... Why are you acting this way?

All these questions circled and spiraled inside your head, what the fuck was this feeling? It was like a middle school crush, except you're not in middle school, you're a grown ass adult.

....Wait.

No...

No. That's not it, is it?

Did you like them?? Seriously???

No, no, that's not right.

You immediately pushed all those emotions and thoughts down and into your stomach as you quickly took enough bite of your burger. You nearly choked at the thought of you actually having a crush on Bob and Rick. Bob was just a friend! Well...him, that's understandable. But Rick? RICK?! THE GUY YOU JUST MET TWO DAMN SECONDS AGO?!

No. You're not gonna believe any of it. You refuse to believe any of it.

You watched as Rick served another customer, you wanted to start some conversation with him. Since- well... You're here every week anyway. Might as well get to know each other, right?

When he came back, you popped another question.

"So, you like the job so far?" you asked curiously. He shrugged, before looking somewhere else to avert his gaze.

"It's a job," he mumbled. That really it?

"I suppose you're right on that," you chuckled at his bluntness.

You saw Bob emerge from the kitchen, with a smile on his face. However, it was different from the one he had earlier; it looked forced.

"Here ya go, darlin'," he said politely as he placed a cup down in front of you.

You took a sip, and went back to eating your food. Bob leaned against the counter with a light smirk on his face.

"Enjoyin' yerself, doll?" he asked teasingly, you nodded with a small smile plastered against your lips, "good. Rick, ah got a task fer' ya," Bob said as he turned over to Rick.

Rick then went off to go do something else, leaving you and Bob all alone together.

"So, ya takin' a likin' t' ol' Ricky, eh?" Bob asked curiously.

"Well... Might as well used to him being around," you shrugged it off, Bob rolled his eyes playfully at you.

"He ain't gonna take ya from me now, is he? Cant have mah best friend goin' off with someone else," he said jokingly, as he went to pinch your cheek.

You chuckled softly at his gesture while pushing his large hand away from your face, "oh shut up, you don't own me."

"Not sayin' ah did."

"Just shut up... Just wanna get to know the guy."

You kept insisting, until eventually, Bob finally caved in and was soon persuaded. After a few more minutes of chatting, he quickly got back to work.

You were basically by yourself for the rest of your time there, which was... Until closing time.

Yeah, crazy, right? You're dumb for staying out that long. A DINER of all places, too.
But the author just wants this to move along already so just go with it-

You watched as Bob wiped down the counters, and Rick swept the floors somewhere behind you. You were on your 16th cup of soda (or juice, whatever you prefer), simply because you just wanted Rick and Bob to keep coming back over. And- you were just slurping it down like an animal.

"Aight, mah dear. Last call before ah close up shop, want one more fer' the road?" Bob asked as he grabbed your empty cup, which was now completely worn out compared to when you first got it.

"...nah, I think I've had enough for one day," you mumbled as a faint tint of red faded onto your face, as it did a bajillion times over.

You stood up from your stool as Bob went to back into the kitchen for the final time tonight—probably to clean up and put whatever was out away from the night.

You looked over at Rick, who seemed to be locking the front door, "you got a ride home?" you asked him, to which he turned around to look at you with that same expression he had for most of the day.

"I walk," he muttered with a small shrug of his shoulders. You frowned softly at that, the poor guy was gonna walk? You swore it was gonna be raining tonight too.

"Want me to walk with you? Uh- it's raining tonight, and—"

"Sure."

He spoke with no hesitation. Was he just waiting for someone to ask because he didn't wanna ask somebody himself? Perhaps, though it didn't really sound like him. You nodded, smiling once more.

Bob came back out from the kitchen, he untied his apron and took off his red hat, revealing more of his greasy black hair.

"Whew... Today's been a long day. Ya want me t' drive ya home, darlin'?" Bob asked you, as he walked toward you while fanning himself with his hat.

"Uh... actually, I was gonna walk home with Rick today," you murmured, not wanting to disappoint him.

The smile on Bob's face dropped nearly instantly. It turned into a jealous scowl, maybe you upset him.

"Oh really now?" Bob asked as he looked over at Rick, who stared back in confusion. You quickly tried to defuse the situation.

"I mean-! You can still like...you can drive us both home, maybe?" you suggested, although that expression still remained, his face lifted slightly.

"Fine. Ah'll drive ya both home," he muttered, he pulled his keys out from his pocket and walked toward the back, "cmon now, ah ain't waitin' fer y'all."

You and Rick quickly followed Bob to the back of the diner, where Bob's big red truck sat, all alone.

Bob hopped into the drivers seat, while you got in the passenger's seat. Rick obviously got last choice, and sat in the back.

The drive was quiet, and unsettling. You felt uncomfortable breathing nearly the entire ride to Rick's house, which felt like an eternity.

Bob pulled up to what looked like a run down apartment, where Rick got out of the truck and waved goodbye. You gave a little wave to him before Bob drove off.

On the drive to your house, it was, again, awfully quiet. You couldn't bare it anymore, you had to say something.

"Are you mad at me?" you asked him, looking up at him, though he couldn't meet your eyes. Not only because he was potentially upset at you, but he also had to keep his eyes on the road in front of him. He entered the highway, before he finally started to speak.

"No, ah'm not," he grumbled, he kept a firm glare as he stared up at the road and the moving cars, "ah just... Ah'm not used t' ya turnin' me down like that."

You froze. Was he...jealous?? You stifled a chuckle at the thought.

"Bob... You hiding something from me?" you asked softly, you leaned your body forward to look at his face, which held onto that intimidating glare by a thread.

He rolled his eyes at you before they ran into some traffic. Well, he had time to explain now, did he?
He let out a defeated sigh, and looked over at you with a tired, exasperated expression.

"...Ah'm jealous," he finally admitted, he didn't look to proud of it either. You couldn't blame him.

Your heart melted for him, you reached forward from your seat and leaned your head against his shoulder. To which he immediately tensed up. Eventually, he warmed up to it and placed a hand over yours.

"Never thought you'd hate the thought of me walking someone else home," you said with a small smile on your face.

"Ah'm just...too used t' yer company. Ah don't wanna share ya," he murmured.

"Obsessive, much?"

"Shut up."

You couldn't help but laugh, all this worry for nothing... It was resolved in just a matter of time.

After a while, the traffic soon began to let up and the truck started moving again. But by that time, you were exhausted and just ready to fall asleep.

And you did.

You closed your heavy eyes and soon drifted off into a deep sleep.

...

"Darlin'... Wake up, we're here," you felt a warm hand gently shake your shoulder, you let out a soft groan as you slowly opened your eyes.

"Mmm..." you mumbled, looking up with blurry vision. You rubbed your eyes and saw that Bob was looking down at you, the truck was no longer moving, the engine was off.

You quickly sat yourself up and saw that the truck was parked in your driveway.

"Oh... Sorry, sorry, I'll get out," you murmured, you quickly went to unbuckle your seatbelt.

"Doll, it's fine," he said with a light chuckle. He got out of the truck and went to open the door for you, "cmon, let's get ya inside," he gently helped you out of the car. You were still in a sluggish state, so you definitely appreciated it.

You groggily limped up to the front porch, leaning against Bob for support. You went up the stairs with him, and grabbed out your keys to unlock the door.

"Thanks for the ride, Bob..." you murmured softly.

"Anytime, darlin'," he replied.

You stepped inside, and closed the door behind you with a small click. Kicking your shoes off, you watched through the open window as Bob walked back to his truck and drove off.

You couldn't help but blush as he drove away.
