summary - [first name] wakes up from her coma with a jumbled memory.

Some people had better powers than others. For example the number two hero in Japan (that's right, hero! like, superheroes!), Endeavor, was able to shoot flames and stuff, while there were people out here who had fucking spray bottles for heads. It was unfortunate. Seriously. Even worse, you could be born quirkless. In this society, that's genuinely one of the worst things you can be.

You thought you were quirkless, but it turned out you were just a late bloomer. Yeah, at 15, you ate and ate and ate until you had gained nearly 70 pounds in five months, which is not normal. You never noticed how much you ate, it was like your stomach was a black hole!

At school you started getting bullied for being obese, but you were already bullied for being quirkless. It made your life hell, and you ate even more. But after those five months, you fell into a coma. Your parents, naturally concerned about you – you know, as parents are supposed to be – they carried your limp body to the ER.

The doctors announced that you were in a coma, duh, but it was induced by food and a concussion. You were there for a year and a half. You're 17, now. You missed a whole ass year and then some of school because your fatass ate so much.

The nurses monitoring your vitals didn't notice the strange webs around your hospital cot at first, but when it became visible, they didn't do shit. And thank God for that. The webs hardened and formed your cocoon, which you were in for a few months – developing. At one point, the hospital called an entomologist, or someone who studies insects. She proposed that it was your quirk, and even though you were listed as quirkless for the last 15 years, they listened to her.

The weekly X-rays the doctors took told them that your body was liquifying itself, which is fucking disgusting.

It turned out that all that eating was for a good reason. The nutrients from all the foods you ate transformed into all your new appendages, and muscles, and height. When you "hatched" it was shocking to everyone. You had transformed from a fat little shit into a majestic beauty. Well, you were a "majestic beauty" compared to your past self. Right now, you were probably an 8/10, so above average, but nothing special. Although, your body was definitely nicer. Before, you were 156 cm, or roughly 5'1". Your change caused you to grow seven inches. You now stood at a solid 175 cm, or 5'9".

You had spent so long unconscious that your memories were jumbled. You forgot about people from the past, but you could remember most things, such as your background. You were an orphan at some shitty orphanage and you had one friend there. Everyone else was rude to you for being a quirkless runt. The way you couldn't remember who that friend was really, really pissed you off. All you could recall were their eyes. Sharp, golden eyes. When you were around seven, you were adopted by your now parents.

Your parents sobbed when they first saw you had woken up. And they wailed when the doctors told them that you had a form of memory loss.

The first day out of the hospital felt uncanny. You towered over your mom and dad, which was weird because your dad used to be over a head taller than you.

They led you to your bedroom, which had been collecting dust ever since you went into a coma. The room was an absolute time capsule and memories flooded into your brain. It was the epitome of a teenage girl: pale cream walls with at least seven posters on every wall, a queen-sized bed with floral pink sheets and way too many plushies, a shelf filled with pictures and old dolls, clothes strewn across the hardwood floor, translucent pink curtains, and a vanity covered in makeup and body sprays. The air was stale, and it was clear no one had entered it in the last year and a half. You gravitated towards the shelves filled with pictures.

You passed by a full body mirror and you couldn't help but stare at your reflection.

Your eyes had changed from before your metamorphosis. Before they were plain human eyes. But now, you have bigger irises with even bigger pupils and bug vision. This meant you could detect light and shadow, and movement. You could see everything, or that's what you felt. Most things appeared much slower to you than they did to others. This made your reaction speed the quickest it's ever been.

Additionally, you now possessed another pair of arms, which brought up to six limbs like an actual insect. You could move these arms like any other appendage. It was freaky. Just a bit, because you grew up without any of this.

On your head were two drooping antennae, which were an extremely pale beige color. You noticed that, at the hospital, you could sense your parents in the hospital before they even entered your floor. You assumed it was your antennae's doing, as they erected and twitched. Also, they were very sensitive to touch; you found this out when your mom and dad started prodding them and you had to suppress your jolts and... noises...

Embarrassing, I know. Your dirty mind immediately compared them to two dicks on your head that could also sense things very well.

Lastly, you twisted your neck to see your new wings – you had two large wings and two smaller underwings. The grayish-brown wings sprouted from between your shoulder blades and had a wingspan of roughly 12, maybe more, feet across, and reached just about mid-calf when you stood. The wings had about the same sturdiness as cardboard with a thickness of maybe an inch and were coated in scales, which were rather thin and felt like fuzz to the touch. When you spread them out, there are four patterns that look sorta like giant eyes. Cool.

You haven't tried flying yet.

You then stuck out your tongue, noticing that it was much longer and skinnier than it was before. It was able to curl at the end, and you guessed it was supposed to be like a proboscis.

After taking in your new appearance, you continued to the shelves. A few pictures caught your eyes. The first was clearly of a chubby younger you, around ten years old, hugging a tall older man in a weird get up, like a magician. He had brown almond eyes that appeared like crescents from his smile and small black brows. The man's curly brown hair peeked out from under his tall top hat. No wonder the little you was smiling so hard – this man was fine! You wondered where he is now (and if he's single by any chance).

You looked at another photograph. It was of you and a trio of kids you assumed were siblings (they all had white hair, though the girl had red clusters, and the boy on your side had split red and white hair) on a see-saw. You were in the air, an excited look on your face, raising your hands as if you were on a roller coaster. The kid on the seat behind you had a scared face, as if this was his first time being up so high. His hands were gripping onto the little bar super tight, so he wouldn't fall off.

You saw your mom talking to a white-haired woman in the background, sitting on a wooden bench. You started to remember this day. You and your parents went out for a walk, window shopping houses in a rich neighborhood. You had complained about being bored and so they stopped at a playground so you could, obviously, play. You met this family and asked if you could play with them and of course they said yes – how could you say no to that adorable face?

Your mothers had exchanged numbers and you would have playdates at the park. Their names were... Man. You stared at their faces, hoping to remember. Maybe there was something written on the back of the photo? You took the image out of its frame and flipped it over.

[first name], Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Touya on a see-saw, was written in the back. It was your dad's handwriting. You hoped you kept in touch with them. You would have to ask your parents later.

There was another picture, but this one was from a different day, in which you were getting a piggyback ride from the boy with split hair and the bluest blue eyes you had ever seen. This is Touya, you assumed. This boy was older, but smaller than his younger siblings. You were surprised that you remembered that. He had a wide smile on his face as you commanded which way he went by tugging on his ears?

Your head throbbed when you looked at him. It was only when a drop of clear liquid landed on his face did you realize you were crying. "Oh God, what's up with me?" You wiped your tears and put the picture back in its frame. "What happened to you?" you asked, staring at the boy's grinning face.

You were blanking out on their surname and this photo sadly didn't have writing on the back to guide you. You tried to remember their surname. "T... Todasaki?" you guessed aloud. "Hm, I remember it starts with a 'T.'"

You decided to forget about it for now.

The next picture was of you at a building. The photo was taken from afar and was clearly candid. You were hugging an older boy, who looked to be a preteen, and his back was to the camera. His hair was cropped and dark brown, almost mahogany, in color. You couldn't see his face in the picture, which irked you. You knew this building was the orphanage you were raised in before being adopted, and you felt memories rush into your cortex.

This place was bad. The caretakers would neglect kids and turn a blind eye to bullying. You were bullied for being quirkless, of course, but this kid – the one you were hugging in the picture – always defended you. If you remembered correctly, this was your first hug with him.

Your face was twisted with mixed emotions. You were both happy that you were finally getting adopted, but sad that you were leaving the boy behind. Your fat little hands grasped onto his shirt. You remember when he would comfort you when you cried. Although, he would always make sure your salty tears never got on him. "It's gross," he would say.

He would insist on telling you how perfect you were being quirkless. He wished everyone was quirkless. He was convinced it was a disease from rats. But, you didn't care if that was true. What mattered to you was that he stood up for you.

Man, it really pissed you off how you can't remember his name or his face.

"[first name]!" your dad called. You should ask him about that group of siblings. He noticed your puffy eyes. "Hey, hey, did something happen?" he asked, rubbing your back.

Your adoptive dad's name was [last name] Kibaru. His quirk basically just allowed him to speed walk really fast, which was pretty lame, but it was helpful for his job. He worked as a mailman, so he delivered mail really fast.

Your adoptive mom, [last name] Niyoka on the other hand, could take and change the color of any object. She worked at a hero costume place, so she's met her fair share of pros. You remembered asking her if she had met any heroes at work during every dinner.

"...What happened to," you pulled out the two pictures of the red-and-white-haired family, "them?" Your dad hesitated on telling you. It must've been tragic or something. "C'mon, dad, I need to remember."

"The Todorokis." He let out a heavy sigh. "You were all good friends, especially with Natsuo."

"Did I keep in touch with any of them?" you asked, staring at the Natsuo boy. You tried to remember every interaction you've had with the boy, but you were drawing blanks.

"To my knowledge, you kept in touch with Natsuo and Fuyumi, but we lost contact after your incident..."

You pointed at the boy who had you in a piggy back. "And what happened to him?"

Your dad drew another deep breath. "Touya. Do you remember him?" he gently asked, his hand on your shoulder. You shook your head. Why couldn't you remember? "He died in a quirk-related accident."

Your eyes widened and your jaw fell open at the statement. No wonder you were crying when you stared at his photo! Damn. "A- and when was this?"

"A few years ago, you were 8 and he was 13."

"He was so young..." you whispered, mainly to yourself.

Your dad straightened up. "Well, enough of this, let's get out of here!" His voice was a clear attempt at sounding secure. You didn't want to ruin this day for him, so you put on a cheery facade.

Your parents decided to go to a grocery store, of all places. They had to buy a few things for dinner.

Your antennae twitched at every new sense, every new sound, smell, even taste. Yeah, you could faintly taste stuff with your weird antennae! How cool!

"Oh, Niyoka and Kibaru! What a pleasure!" a pleasant voice called out. The motherly voice sounded familiar, like it was one from your childhood. You turned to see a plump woman with shoulder-length green hair and a plump figure. "Oh, and who is this?" she asked, clasping her hands together.

"It's [first name]! They look different don't they?" your mom said. "[first name], this is Inko-san."

The lady's mouth dropped. "Oh my! May I get a picture? Izuku has been so sad without his dear friend."

Izuku? The name sounded familiar. Your mom looked towards you expectantly. "I don't mind," you said, waving your hand. She took a selfie and then forwarded it to her son. the adults continued to talk for some time before you heard very loud panting. The very exhausted person got closer and closer until they were right beside Inko.

She stared at him, eyes blown wide. "How did you get here so fast – the store is 20 minutes from our building–"

"I- I ran," he simply said.

You curiously stared down at the boy and he stared at the ground, hunched over with his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath. His curly mop of green hair covered his eyes, but you could see the freckles covering his tan arms. "Hi?" This must be Izuku. You don't really remember him.

His torso jolted upright at the sound of your voice, his neck craning up to look at you. He had big doe eyes, you noticed. "Woah," he whispered in adoration, his phone slipping from his grasp, "Y- You grew so much, [nickname]! And you have a quirk now–" Looking down, he began to pat himself down for something. "Ah, I forgot my notebook..." He looked back up at you, his face glowing bright red as he fidgeted with his fingers. "[nickname}, can I... Gosh... C- Can I, canipleasehugyou!"

You snorted. God, this is weird. You were sad to say, but you can't remember this kid that much right now. It felt like talking to a fan. You bashfully scratched your neck "Gosh, you're making me feel like a celebrity." Your snort turned into a short chuckle. "Of course you can, Izuku-san!" You opened your arms, leaning in.

He was short compared to you, around 5'5", and the top of his hair grazed your nose. He held you tightly, burying his face into your chest, like he was afraid you would. And he was. He lost you for over a year. You felt your shirt getting wet, presumably from his tears. It was horrible, so horrible. He missed hanging out in either one of your rooms talking about All Might or what quirk was the best. You missed out on so much. He wanted to talk to you every time something happened. Yes, he's already told you everything, but you were unconscious. He had to tell you again so he could get you input!

One thing he didn't tell you about though, is his new quirk. Truthfully, he didn't plan on it either. Izuku then took notice of what you called him and he lifted his head, still hugging you. "What happened to Zucchan?"

"Zucchan? Who's that?"

By the way his face immediately dropped, you could tell you fucked up.

"W- What do you mean?" He flung himself from you, shaking slightly . "I- I'm Zucchan. You don't... Remember?"

"W- Well, I- Yeah," you gave in, "I sorta forgot a few things, being in a coma and all, y'know?"

"Oh..." He looked so dejected, you felt horrible for telling the truth even if it was the right thing to do. "So, what do you remember?"

"I remember... The orphanage, and I remember my parents, and green hair? And–"

"I- I have green hair!" he excitedly exclaimed. "So you remember some things like hair color and... Do you remember K- Kacchan? Ash-blond hair?"

You thought for a few seconds before shaking your head no. Izuku tried to hide his smile. It felt like a sort of victory that you could remember him instead of Kacchan. Izuku partly blamed Kacchan for your coma, even if he knew deep down he wasn't fully to blame..

The day you fell into a coma was vivid in his mind, as if it happened just the day before. It was lunch at Aldera Junior High, with you being a grade above him (he was in the middle of his second year while you were in third), were not there. Or, you weren't supposed to be.

By no means were you a troublemaker or a rulebreaker. It's just, sometimes, you need to stretch your legs, you had told him many times when he had caught you skipping class. Your grades had different lunch periods, so he was surprised to see you there. When you spotted him, you had walked over and sat down next to him, your usual cheery grin on your chubby face. He had been sitting alone, like always.

It's just a fact that no one wants to be friends with someone quirkless. Quirkless people (which was basically synonymous with being useless) were looked down upon by most. Luckily for him, you were quirkless too.

He noticed your weight gain, but never said anything. He didn't really care much about it after all. You're still you, and your weight doesn't change that of course.

You talked. He remembered the exact conversation, too. It was something that wasn't that important, just lazy conversing between friends.

"Yesterday, Bookie–" Bookie is your cockatiel. A stupidly smart cockatiel that really loved to insult people. You insisted she just repeated things she heard, but sometimes the insults were a bit too targeted. "escaped out of my room and this morning she came back and guess what was in her beak?"

"A mouse?" Izuku had speculated. "No, that seems too normal for you, [nickname]. Hm... Was it a... All Might figure? If it was, you should really give it to me, you know-"

"You geek," you laughed, your eyes squeezing nearly shut from your smile. "You always manage to bring All Might into it, don't you?" He remembers sheepishly scratching the back of his freckled neck. He couldn't help but smile, too. Your smile was definitely contagious. "But no – any other guesses?"

He had shaken his head, green hair bouncing along. "So what was it?"

He saw how excited you were to tell him, but when he saw a shadow loom over you, he tried to tell you discreetly by tapping your hand. You clearly didn't get the message until the "shadow" spoke up.

"So the quirkless loser Deku does have friends?" It was Kaachan. They used to be friends, before Izuku was outed as quirkless. Now, the boy either insults him or straight up threatens him. Usually, it was with his quirk, bright and scalding sparks jumping at his face as he stared at his former friend in horror. However, Kacchan has never gone past that. Usually, he would stop his hand, just centimeters short of his face and then mutter something along the lines of, "Pathetic bitch, you're lucky I'm feeling nice."

Other times, when he actually got physical, it would be a punch or a really hard shove. Usually a right hook, his signature move.

It was predictable, but it didn't stop him from fearing for his life every time. What if one day, Kacchan just snapped?

The other student, Tsubasa, snickered as you whipped your head to the voice. "Is it even human? Looks more like a whale!" Tsubasa himself was overweight, so he shouldn't be talking–

Izuku watched as your eyes widened and your bottom lip began to uncontrollably tremble. You had bitten down on it to make it stop, but he could see that you were looking for a distraction from the insults. You were trying to direct your attention to something more painful.

Kacchan cackled. His hand reached for your hair and twisted it so that you would face him. "Like a pig in lipstick, ha!"

"H- Hey, k- knock it off, Kacchan!" Izuku had stood up, his hands slamming on the table. He kept them there, in hopes of steadying his trembling form. He had cursed himself for stuttering. But, he simply couldn't help it! His mouth never seemed to work with him, and words usually had to force their way off his tongue.

Kacchan stared at him for a moment, his eyes dangerously narrowed, but his surprise was quickly replaced by a sick smirk. One of his hands had left his pants pocket and he held it up in front of his face before activating his esteemed quirk.

"What," Kacchan jeered, glancing at his sparking palms and then back at Izuku. "Can't even defend your bitch? Pathetic Deku! Might as well just kill y–"

He couldn't get another word out before you stood up and–

SLAP!

Kacchan wasn't expecting it at all. And he was enraged and humiliated, Izuku could see it in his eyes. The way they flamed up and his irises seemed to glow an even brighter vermillion. His eyes were wide and his jaw slightly hung open, dumbfounded. His mouth opened and closed, but no sound came out, like a goldfish.

"You have no right to tell him that, you fucking dick – who even are you to be speaking to him like that? What did he do to you, huh?" Izuku had never seen you like that – so assertive.

You and Kacchan were glaring at each other, your face was scrunched up as if you were staring at something absolutely rancid. A part of it warmed his heart, to see you defend him. The other part of him was very, very scared. This was Kacchan you just slapped. No doubt he would–

Izuku saw Kacchan's right fist twitch, and he knew what he was about to do. He was supposed to stop it, but he was too slow. Too slow to save you. It made him so angry.

He let out a strangled noise when Kacchan's signature right hook landed on your cheek. What was even worse, was that his quirk was activated. The force of the blow alone sent your weak body into the lunch table. You had passed out shortly after hitting your head, falling to the floor.

"Fucking dramatic piggy bitch," Kacchan had muttered, his lips stuck in a deep, aggravated scowl.

It was like time stopped for Izuku. He stared at you, limply sprawled on the dirty cafeteria floor. He had dropped to his knees and tried shaking you awake, but you just didn't. Sobs wracked through his core.

You didn't wake up.

What felt like hours passed before paramedics arrived. You were carried out on a stark white stretcher. Izuku met Kacchan's eyes. He thought he saw a glimpse of remorse in the sea of red, but it was gone as soon as he noticed it.

"K- Kacchan." His voice came out as a mixture between a sob and a whimper.

Izuku visited you at least once a week in the hospital. Every time he visited, he would update you, just about general things – the last villain All Might defeated; a good test score; a new hero's debut; other simple things.

But, sometimes, the conversations got deeper. He told you about what he should've done that day when you were punched by Kacchan. About how he should have stood up for himself instead of letting you get involved. Still, he wanted to make it right. Izuku vowed he would protect you from that day on. You had bravely done the same without a quirk, and now that he had One for All, he was going to protect you.
