"Y/n you look absolutely lovely~" The Queen happily declared, holding both your hands in pure joy "Makes me wonder who designed this wonderful dress" You laugh and she lets go of your hand so you could spin for her to see "Prince Donghyuck was very accurate with the measurements," She nods and agrees, The blue, short sleeved, wrap around dress complemented the diamond necklace that the Prince has given you after you wore the dress the Queen has designed herself
"My what beautiful ladies have decided to grace us with their presence" A voice pops in and you turn to see the King with Prince Donghyuck, The King was wearing the typical embellishment of his attire, matching with the Queen, lies atop of their heads were crowns that twinkled with the light.
"It truly is an honor to walk into the ballroom as their escort" The Prince adds, adjusting and fixing his cufflinks that you just noticed matched with your necklace, his eyes travel up and down your body, a hint of pink spreading on his cheeks "You look beautiful" He praises and you smile as he stands beside you a hand lifting to tuck your hair behind the clip he bought for you before
You leaned slightly into his touch a small sigh leaving your lips "I'm nervous" you said honestly
He smiles "Don't be," He assures "I'll stay by your side the whole night" He wiggles his eyebrows "Unless you don't want me too"
"Why would I want that?"
"You can never know," He starts with a shrug "For all we know Chenle or Lucas might take you away, you know how those two adore you"
You stared at him and laughed, the nerves from a while ago disappeared as he made sure that you not only smile but you also laugh. Donghyuck's eyes never left you and watched as your eyes crinkled or the way you attempted to push him away, he loved it seeing you smile and laugh like that it was even better that you laugh was caused by him
"My what a perfect couple these two are" The King complements and motions for Doyoung to take a step forward and in his hands was The Prince's Crown "Y/n dear, can you help Prince Donghyuck wear his crown?"
Doyoung walks up in front of you and bows respectfully and you look at the Prince eyes wide, the motion of helping royalty wear their crown is no joke, it is an action implying loyalty and trust between two parties, ad the fact they asked you to place it on his head is a sigh that they've accepted you as their son's future bride.
You were scared and the Prince knows, he can see it, the alarmed look you harbored and the way your hand clinged to itself, he reaches right hand to hold your hand as a way to silently help you calm down and stop you from picking on your skin, he smiles reassuring you before placing his left hand on to his chest before going on to his knees, his head bowed a bit "I'm here, you're ok" He whispers and lets go of your hand
You licked your lips before shifting and taking the crown before slowly placing it on top of the Prince's head "Rise your Highness"
The Prince obeyed and stood up, his heart thumping onto his chest to the point that he was afraid that you'd hear it, he wasn't an idiot he knows what his parents meant by asking you to place the crown in his head its as if they're saying to his face that they approve of you and want him to marry you as fast as he possibly can.
After meeting your eyes and the way both of your cheeks changed a shade darker he smiles and bows, in an attempt to calm you both down "Son, your turn" The king starts and Hana appears, in her hand was a half tiara. Named so because of it adorning your whole head it only adorns half of it like a clip, it was adorned with jewels that matched the Prince's crown. The half tiara was and can be used for either men or women and is known to be used by the people who will marry into royalty, his parents were announcing that your marriage was approved by both parties "Help Y/n wear her tiara"
"I'd rather not" He answers, "Forgive me but today is her birthday, it'll be overshadowed if she wears the tiara" He tries and fights back, knowing full well that you wearing the tiara means and how even if his family and country approves, if you don't want to be his bride, he won't force you to be one. You watched the Prince tried to convince his parents to keep the tiara away, you watched as the King and Queen try to make him listen, you watched the way he steps forward in an attempt to shield
You bit your lip, the reason that this agreement was established was so that the Prince won't have a hard time, you looked down at your hands before taking a step forward to take the Prince's hand and gently pull him away from the King and Queen who looked at you surprised to see their son, that is usually hard headed and takes a lot of convincing to change his opinions, was quiet the moment you held his hand. You dragged him beside Hana "Its alright" you assured and he narrows his eyes when let go of his hand and bowed, a hand raised as you practically kneeled
The Prince's eyes narrowed at your actions "Y/n what-?"
You cut him off with a small smile "It's ok, go on ahead"
He stares at you in disbelief surely you're not asking him to place the ceremonial half tiara, that was meant for the significant other of the crowned royalty, Do you mean anything by it? Did you just ask him to place it on you so he and his parents won't fight? You can't just wear this Tiara and not expect The Prince's heart to stay still, once the royal to be wears that Tiara it signifies the importance of their future to the kingdom it isn't only a sign of loyalty but a sign of dedication. Wearing that Tiara is basically the same thing as accepting an engagement ring, and you don't even mean wearing it.
You looked up at him and he blushes, that smile of yours will never cease to send his heart fluttering in his chest. The look in your eye was your silent way of reassuring him and he sighs before taking the tiara and placing it on your head, taking the extended hand out he helps you up and readies to escort you into the ball
"you both are so cute together" The Queen nods in approval before taking the hand the KIng had offered "Enjoy the ball, both of you" You both nod
"Announce us" the King spoke and waits for the door to open
"King and Queen Lee of the West"
The Prince looks at you "You didn't have to", you look at him "You don't have to wear the tiara if you don't want to"
You nod "I know, but I didn't want you and the King to fight"
He looks away sadly You don't know what wearing that Tiara means to me. He thinks and takes a deep breath "Announce us"
"Are you tired already?" The Prince teases and hands you a glass of water, you made a face, ever since the two of you were announced at the ball for the past hour the only thing that you both did was greet guests. Nothing but, "Hello, thank you for inviting me", "Future crowned Princess thank you for inviting us today", "It is an honor to be graced by the Crowned Prince and Future Crowned Princess' Presence" was heard. You had a brief chance to see Hendery, Your Brother then Your Parents. Prince Lucas, Prince Mark, Prince Jeno, Prince Renjun, Prince Jaemin, Prince Chenle and Prince Jisung along wit their fiancé's and girlfriends all managed to say Hi before you had to leave and greet the other guests
"Shouldn't I be?" you asked with a huff and placed the glass to your lips and drank
Prince Donghyuck chuckles and fixes your hair again, a habit he has started to form "Well its understandable" He shows you his hand "I got you a cookie"
You perked up and happily took the cookie and munched on it "Ok, I'm better now"
He laughs again opening his mouth to reply when he heard a couple of girls gossip not too far from you both
"Is Lady Y/n wearing the half Tiara?"
"I can't believe they did that, like having a ball at her birthday isn't enough"
"Do you think Lady Y/n forced the royals to give it to her?"
"I hear that the Duchess's daughter, Lady Hanuel was injured because Lady Y/n harmed her when they visited the palace"
Donghyuck heard every word and it made his blood boil, he looks at you, he can tell you heard it too, by the way you looked down at the cooking in your hand. He takes a deep breath before stepping to the side to cover you from the gossipers gazes. Sir Yangyang was nearby making sure The Prince and future Princess was in no harm, upon meeting The Prince's eyes he motions to the giggling gossipers and Sir Yangyang understood, he showed them out.
"That wasn't necessary" You answered and smiling sadly, his heart hurts to see you put on a brave smile for him
"No," He says and holds your hand, knowing what could make you smile he lead you through the crowd "I did," He answers "nothing is more important to me then your happiness" At that moment, after seeing you give him a sad smile, trying to pretend your ok, Prince Donghyuck has sworn to himself that, even if it hurt him, he'd do anything to make you happy. He places you up on the makeshift stage, hand still held in a manner of leading you. He meets Prince Mark's eyes and he smiles.
Prince Mark has been friends with Prince Donghyuck for a very long time, and from that time he was able to learn how Donghyuck acts, from his likes to dislikes and how he held in his anger by biting his tongue, or maybe how he licks his teeth and look away when he's about to land a punch at your jaw but right now that sadness that hid behind the smile that he offered was his way of saying not to worry about him, Oh Donghyuck, What are you planning?
"Can I have everybody's attention?" The Prince called, making everyone turn their heads towards the both of you and you silently yelped at the attention, he gently squeezes your hand "As the night begins I would like to ask all the young men in this ballroom to offer themselves and dance with my beloved," He starts and everyone stared at the prince in shock, he laughs "if you want a dance better ask her now before I take her away forever" The whole room started laughing at the Prince's joke all except Hendery who met the Prince's eyes. The Prince looked at him before looking at you and then back to him a silent agreement shared between the two of them and Hendery was more than happy to comply.
He takes a step forward and bowed his hand out, offering it to you "It would be my honor if the future Crowned Princess, accepts my hand in a dance"
You're eyes widened as you stared at Hendery, heart picking up its pace, Hendery looked absolutely gorgeous in his suit and you had to look away and look to the Prince beside you to control the heat that started spreading to your cheeks and neck, after seeing the way that Prince's jaw was locked, it was obvious that every being in the Prince's body refused to give you to the man in front of him, but instead he is reminded his promise so he smiles and places your hand that was on his to Hendery's waiting hand
"Take care of her" The Prince says
Hendery nods with a raised eyebrow the message clear I already do
The Prince let out a silent growl at the action of the boy in front of him, its no secret between the two of them, Hendery knows that the Prince loves his Y/n and Donghyuck knows that he has no right to, his little attempt of bravado to the boy was nothing if what they both want is in the arms of someone else
Hendery pulled you away from the Prince in a playful manner that made you giggle, catching you before you would collide to his chest, he smiles and waits for the music to start at the command of the Prince
Prince Donghyuck watched his heart aching at the sound of your giggling, he knew it, actually, he expected it, he just wasn't mentally prepared for it, to see how happy and in love you were with Hendery. As long as you're happy, As long as you're happy, As long as you're happy, As long as you're happy. He chanted in his head and raised his hand and just like that the music starts
Mark watched as Donghyuck's eyes never left you even as you danced with the boy Mark could guess as your boyfriend, Mark sighs, No wonder he looked so sad
Donghyuck moves down the stage to stand in front of a group of young ladies, he bows in front of them and offers his hand "Will Lady Park Bora accompany to the dance floor?" The blushing girl nods and takes the Prince's hand, letting him lead her and dance
He was dancing half heartedly, dancing with the girl in front of him had absolutely nothing to do with him so instead his eyes found themselves watching you, watching how much you've smiled only by being in the arms of Hendery, he watches as you giggle at something he said, he watches as your eyes drift to him and he freezes, he doesn't react fast enough and you flashed him a smile and a small wave, before you pouted at something Hendery says, a sight which soon disappeared as the sea of people walked into the dancefloor either to dance or ask you to. Everything hurts
The rest of the night Donghyuck made sure you and Hendery get to spend time together, cause he knows your heart lies in spending you're birthday with the one you love.
One time the Prince said "If the guests would direct their attention to the left you'll see wide assortments of sweets that my Love absolutely adores, please pick one up and wish her A Happy Birthday" making each guest wish her a birthday by walking up to her and handing a pastry. Donghyuck looked up when it was Hendery's turn to grant you both privacy, you both deserve this much. And there was this other time at the night that he purposely stood beside Hendery when a the musicians held a private solo concert for the guests so that you could squeeze between them and in turn stand beside Hendery.
Finally it was part of the night that Donghyuck was excited for, he stands and catches people's attention "May I have you're attention please," He smiles and adjusts the crown on his head a bit as he felt it loosen, you smiled at how cute he was acting, all that moving around must've loosened it, you reached out to tug on his sleeve and he looks at you before leaning down a bit, his face close to yours his eyes immediately landing on your lips before looking away, you nodded in content once you fix the crown and he stood back up, cheeks slightly red while you remained indifferent, he clears his throat as everybody else cooed at the young couple "I would like to thank everybody for coming today, and spending time with me and Lady Y/n. But the time has come," He teases and every chuckles "For the gifts"
You're smile disappeared "Gifts?" You asked and he nods while sitting down "I don't need gifts, Your Highness" You whispered and he chuckles
"Y/n, gifts are mandatory when you visit" He points out and you pout and he grins "Even if you don't want them, gifts are meant to be accepted"
"But-"
"What if you brought a gift and I didn't accept it?"
You stared at him a while before scrunching your nose "Alright"
He miles fondly and pins your hair back with the clip he got for you
The presents were either dresses or jewelry, each one extravagant in their own way, it was all too much but you happily thanked each and everyone of them. Prince Lucas, Prince Mark, Prince Jeno, Prince Renjun, Prince Jaemin, Prince Chenle and Prince Jisung all got you a pair of shoes that matched the Dresses that their girlfriends and Fiancé gave you, your parents got you that stationary set you wanted for the personalized letters for the flower shop, your brother got you that umbrella that had a design of your childhood favorite character that one made you laugh, the Hendery, what he gave you was something that on normal circumstances would've made you jump in his arms and kiss him, it was a childhood joke between the two of you, the stuffed dog was a look a like of your dog that passed away years ago, Luna was the toy's name and you smiled "Thank you" He nods and bows whispering to the toy "I love you" You smile even more at his words, wishing you could say it back but instead choosing to hug the toy he gave you
Donghyuck bit his tongue in order not to say something that he'll later regret and opted to just watch the scene unfold before him even though his heart did nothing but give him pain
"What about, His Highness'?" Prince Chenle yells and Prince Donghyuck's head snaps at the voice, while you look at The Prince, he didn't look ok, his eyes were glossed over and he looked pale, others wouldn't have noticed it but you did, how he hid his hands even from you to cover the fact that it started shaking.
"My Prince?" You whispered and he turns to you, You reach out to hold his hand "are you ok?"
He nods and moves, hand still holding yours, in front of you "I'm ok" He assures and produces a small box that you accepted "Happy Birthday"
You smile at him and let go of his hand to open the gift and gasped, "My Prince" You said in disbelief "This, this is too much"
He chuckles "Accept gifts, Y/n. Especially mine, that's all I ask" He says and you stare at the beautiful silver bangle bracelet that had a star and moon charm, on the moon had your initial and Donghyuck smiles at the way you studied the present, he turns his head to the side to look at Mark's eyes who gave him a sad smile, next Donghyuck looked at Hendery who was looking at you, studying you're reaction. Donghyuck looks back at you "Can I put it on you?"
You looked up at him and nod, handing him your hand and he smiles before taking the gift and helping you wear it. I promise until the end, I'll love you, I will do anything if it means you'll be happy. He thinks and slips it on "Perfect" He praises and grins, hiding the tears that started to pool in his eyes as much as he can
"Thank you" You said happily
"Anything for you"
"I would like to thank everyone who took time out of their day to celebrate our lovely L/n Y/n's Birthday today" The King says and smiles at his people "My son has given the bachelor's here a chance to dance with his wife-to-be, I have a feeling that this might be you're only chance," He teases and the crowd started laughing at the King's joke "As you all know Lady Y/n and Prince Donghyuck are engaged, I'm thankful that Our young Prince not only met someone that would be a wonderful Princess and Queen one day, He also found someone he loves and for that I offer my deepest and most sincerest gratitude" He speaks and bows towards your direction and you straightened
"My King" Prince Donghyuck spoke first once he noticed your reaction, walking towards him and assured the King as he assisted him to stand "That wasn't necessary"
The King chuckles and stands patting his son's hand, and The Prince obeys returning to his seat beside you. The King smiles "Everybody please give a round of applause to my son, Prince Donghyuck and my future Daughter-to-be, Lady Y/n, to Dance with stars"
Dancing with stars is a dance style that the first Kings of the Kingdoms have started that has been passed down through generations. The Dance starts off with the Moon or the lead dancers off in the middle and they dance, they dance one segment before other dancers or stars join them surrounding the Moon with multiple layers of rings, after one more segment(the Moon joining the circle of stars) The Women changes partners by taking the outstretched hand of the Man beside their current Partner's while the Men switch rings with the one in front and behind them, this pattern repeats 'till the moons reunite and signal the end of the dance.
Prince Donghyuck looks at you and tugs a strand of hair behind your ear before offering his hand "Would you do me the honor of being the other half of the Moon?" You stared at his hand before nodding and taking the Prince's hand.
He pulls you to the middle, taking a step back to bow flashing you a sweet smile as he stand back up and you returning the action by smiling and curtsying, a hand clasping yours the other to your waist "Relax" He assures "I got you"
The music starts and he leads, leading you around the floor, spinning you along to the music, using your momentum to lift you, pushing you away before pulling you close and back to his chest which making you giggle, his heart fluttering at the sound.
"Thank you" You said as you both danced, placing your hand back on to his shoulder
"What for?"
"For giving me and Hendery chances to spend time together"
It stung, hearing you say Hendery's name with such affection, how he wishes it to be his name instead "You're welcome" He answers, his voice cracking a bit, thankful you didn't seem to notice. He hold you by the waist to lift you once more before returning his hand to yours and by the waist to gently and lead you around the room before settling in the middle as stars start to file in and the dance resumes ones again.
You and the Prince were at the first ring once the stars joined, Hendery and Lady Park Bora were at the ring behind you along with your brother and the girl he's courting. The dance continued but with more people, The Prince kept you close, spinning you and leading along with the flow of people until the time to switch partners have come. Donghyuck squeezed your hand before letting go and switch with the man behind him, from here he can spot who you're next partner was and they made eye contact, Prince Donghyuck and Hendery stared at one another as if to intimidate one another, you may not be Donghyuck's but as long as you allow him he'll fight for you even though Donghyuck knows how futile his actions is after seeing you're eyes light up after realizing who you'll be partnered with
"Hey Beautiful" Hendery teases and you smile more, slyly pinching his shoulder
"Shh" You hushed "If someone hears?"
You yelped when Hendery lifted you before answering "I'll be careful" He assured and tilts his head "What's it like being the fiancé of a royal?"
You tilt your head as well "Well," You hum letting him lead you through the dance "It's nice, he would show me around and tell me he needs my help, my opinion, he makes sure I'm comfortable, He gives me presents almost everyday, I tell him to stop he whines like a child, and he makes sure to eat meals with me no matter how busy he is, its nice"
He watches you and nods "What's the Prince like?"
"The Prince?"
He nods
"He's gentle, and kind, and caring" You smile as you spoke "He listens or atleast like it, whenever tell him a story about how I grew up, He-" Your eyes moved to drift over to the Prince who at the moment was laughing as he spoke with his current partner "He has an addictive laugh" you exhaled sharply as your eyes followed after the Prince, Hendery watched as your eyes returned to him and nodding for you to continue "The Prince is very loving and made sure that everyone around him was loved, whether its a maid or someone who handles vegetables, he would flash them this smile of his that'll make it seem as if he'll protect you, as of you can lean on him"
He looked to the side and licked his lip "does he?"
You nod "Prince Donghyuck will be a wonderful King one day" You said and smiled
Hendery looks to the side to watch the Prince, who had hopelessness behind his eyes and he nods looking at you "Especially with a wonderful woman by his side" You nod, happily agreeing. He looks at you sadly
"Hendery?"
"Y/n-" He starts but was interrupted when the dance required to switch partners again
And there you collided to someone familiar, "Hi Y/n" He greats and spins you around
"Prince Mark!" You exclaimed and allowed him to lead you through the dance and he chuckles
"You're happy" He notes and you nod "Any special reason?"
"Do I really have to?"
He nods "Good job, I'm glad you're happy" He answers and you laugh when he lifted you for a moment "Actually Y/n if you don't mind, can I ask you something?" You nod again and he chuckles "Tonight is your last night right?" he whispers
"What?" You looked at him in shock "Where did you- How did you?"
"Donghyuck told me, don't worry your secret is safe"
"Was that your question?" You asked softly and he shakes his head
"No, I wanted to ask" He looks into your eyes, carefully watching your actions "Won't you regret it?"
You tilt your head looking into his eyes "Regret?"
"Yes, leaving, the palace, Donghyuck," He places and softens his gaze "Would you regret it?"
"I know I will" You answered and Prince Mark was taken aback by your honesty, while your eyes drift off too look back at the Prince "but I know I'll regret it more if I stay"
Prince Mark's eyes widened once he realized where you were looking "Y/n did you ever consider Donghyuck as someone you'll-" He starts but bit his tongue "I lost my train of thought" He lies and smiles "It doesn't matter we're about to switch partners anyway" You looked back at him "I wish happiness with your choice Y/n"
You smile and nod "Thank you, Your Highness"
The Prince spent the rest of the dance mostly in a blur, he doesn't remember the people he has danced with, he made it his goal throughout the whole dance to look at everything but you so he never realized how close you were to returning to him. Once the Moon reunites, he blinks, you were in his arms, "Y/n?" He asked surprised
You laugh "Has His Highness been daydreaming?"
He smiles "No, I was just surprised"
"Are you ok? You're a little pale"
"I'm fine, don't worry about me" He spins you around and leads you back to the middle of the rings and ending the dance with gentle push before pulling you to his chest, hugging you while he hides his face in your shoulder as everyone bows to the Moon that has reunited
Everyone happily cheers for the Future Crowned Princess and Prince as the dance ends and all part to continue one with their own business, You pursed your lip before patting the Prince's head "Your Highness?" You asked softly
"Just a little longer" He begged "I'm a little dizzy"
You nod "Alright"
"Donghyuck can we talk?" Prince Mark pops in and freezes at the sight before him
"Lady Y/n can I have your attention for a moment?" Hendery says almost the same time and looks away at the sight of the Prince and You
You stared at them and then looked back at the Prince "My Prince?"
"I'm ok" He smiles and pulls away from you "Alright, lets talk Prince Mark"
You looked back at Hendery and smile "Sure" You answered before looking at the Prince "You should get some air and make sure you drink something, My Prince"
He nods and bows his head before motioning to the balcony "After you, Prince Mark"
Mark looks at the both You and Hendery before bowing and leading Prince Donghyuck to the balcony
"What did you wanna talk about?" Donghyuck asks taking a sip of the wine in his hands, the balcony was empty except for him and Mark
"I don't think Y/n meant wine with 'drink something'" Mark notes
Donghyuck smiles "Is that what you wanted to tell me?"
"No" He answers and sighs "its about Y/n"
Prince Donghyuck raised an eyebrow "What about her?"
"Did you ever consider making her love you?"
"She has a boyfriend"
"I didn't tell you to steal her from him"
"So what are you saying exactly?"
"Winning her over"
"What's the point?"
"You love her, that's my point"
"Yeah, and Hendery loves her too and even better she loves him back"
"How can you be so sure of that?"
"You weren't there Hyung, you didn't see how much she needed him or how here eyes light up when she sees him or how she cherishes his I love you's"
"So you're just gonna give up?"
"Yeah. Seemed like the smartest and best move for all of us"
"Its not"
"On what account?"
"Yours. You're not happy Donghyuck"
"Who cares?"
"Me? Lucas? Chenle, Jisung, Renjun, Jaemin, Jeno? Taeyong Hyung, Yuta Hyung, Doyoung Hyung? What about Yangyang? or Jaehyun Hyung? The King and Queen?"
"Please" Prince Donghyuck cuts in with a roll of his eyes
"Y/n" Prince Mark continues and Donghyuck stops and freezes "Your happiness means as much as your wish for Y/n to be happy."
Just then Hendery pushes through the doors of the balcony "I'm sorry" He quickly says and bows "I wasn't aware that the Princes are still here, please forgive me"
Prince Mark raises his hand to silence the new comer and look at Donghyuck who took another sip of his wine "Think about what I said, Prince Donghyuck" He says and bows to the Prince and leaves the balcony
Prince Donghyuck sighs and leans against the railings of the stairs, a sigh on his lips as Hendery walks to the railing to look down at the garden "What are you doing here?"
Hendery chuckles and hums, The Prince noticed the hidden sadness behind it "I needed air is all"
A comfortable silence swept the two of them, The Prince lifted the wine glass to his lips to take another sip before he breaks the silence "Thank you"
Hendery looks at him "What did I do to earn such a praise?"
"Loving Y/n," The Prince answers "She's happy and that's all I ever ask"
Hendery nods "She deserves all the beautiful things in the world doesn't she?"
The Prince agrees with a nod "Speaking of Y/n, shouldn't you be with her?"
"Yeah," Hendery answers before looking at the sky "about that, I broke up with her"
Donghyuck dropped his glass and grabbed Hendery by the collar "What?!"
"I broke up wit-"
"I heard you," Donghyuck asked angrily "Are you out of you're mind?" he practically growled "Why?! Do you have any idea what you did?! so many people would do anything to have what you have and you broke up with her?!"
"I'm aware the Y/n is loved, Your Highness" He answers and looks at the Prince in the eyes "Believe me or not, I love Y/n so much that I-"
"She loves you too, she would be so happy at the thought of you, why? what throw that away?"
"I did it fir her"
The Prince tightened his grip "How is any of this for her?"
"She may love me that's the truth," Hendery replied and choked a bit by the Prince's gasp "But she's torn, her heart doesn't just belong to me."
"What is that supposed to mean?!"
"It means whatever you think it means, My Prince. Y/n wont be happy if we made her choose, is all I'm saying. So I give up"

The Prince growls and lets go of the boy "You're an asshole"
