First off, for the sake of full transparency, Oliva's not my actual name. It's a pseudonym I've adopted in the great literary tradition of writing incognito. I know it's more commonly used as a female name, but I'm male and don't want to lead anyone to believe otherwise.

When I write New Adult stories, I like to immerse myself in my writing. I try to vividly imagine life in the situations I create and try to present a perspective which comes across as authentic.

I really enjoyed writing, The Boiling of the Bones. Lots of the settings in my story are real places and some elements are inspired by real events. I enjoyed crafting improbable, poignant encounters, intersecting two characters who belong together, then ripping them apart. I love constructing the vulnerable, nervous tension of two young people attracted to one another. The awkward flirting through witty lines, and tension that often manifests in funny, playful teasing conversations as they stealthily determine if the interest level is mutual. Then when it's discovered that it is, there's that super energizing feeling, knowing they can open up and trust enough to let one another in.

Then I like to squash it. Over and over, twisting and tormenting my poor characters. Do they get together happily in the end? Is this a romance? Or a tragedy? There's only one way to find out. Happy reading!
