- female friendships (how powerful and special they can be/how scary and all-consuming it can be when they end)
- being a girl in worlds in which it can be so hard to be a girl!!!!! (ahem, ahem, high school)
- anything murder mystery/true crime-y (clue is still my favorite board game)
- mothers/daughters/sisters.
- heartbreak/relationships ending.
- the OCCASIONAL happy ever after!!!! (few and far between)
