Wallace George du Temple is the son of George Walter Du Temple and Alice Louise. His father had been born in Tahiti but came to Canada in 1909. Wally was born in Vancouver in 1941 and the family moved to North Saanich in 1946, after his father, who was a Royal Canadian Forces commanding officer, was assigned to oversee construction of the RCF air training base at Patricia Bay. Later, of course, it became the Victoria International Airport. Wally's family bought the Ardmore Golf Course in 1946 and it became the centre of their lives in many ways.

Wally graduated from North Saanich High School in 1959 and went on to UBC and then to University of Toronto for his teaching certificate. A man of many talents and interests, he has had an eclectic career, including social work in northern B.C. with the Tahltan First Nation; teaching school, canoe and river boat safari outfitter and golf course manager. He describes himself as a writer, photographer, canoeist, riverboat man, horseman, carriage driver, dog team musher and a sailor! Throughout his careers he has kept diaries and journals as well as letters to his mother that he now uses as a source for his memoir writing. He is the author of three books on his life in, and about North Saanich.
