For years I was one of those "one day I'm going to write a book..." types, and every year I'd resolve that THIS will be the year I start...
Well, when I hit 40, I thought, " its about bloody time!" so I did...
30 years ago I created a world for a Table top fantasy RPG, and 10 years after that expanded it to suit a specially written Live Roleplay system. I have, in my head, and on paper, 30 years worth of notes, histories, characters, plots, wars, and God knows what else. I have maps of every kingdom, and scopes of religious orders, guilds, and free companies.
When I sat down to write my book I thought that I would draw on all this background, and started with a couple of short stories.

The land of Trojel itself is a comparatively small island in a huge world, but it sits at the very centre, and was once once the home of the Gods, where they walked among the mortals.
1000 or so years ago, a mist fell upon the island and all access to the place was stopped. To this day, no one knows why.
100 years ago, the mists disappeared just as suddenly as they had risen, and the races of human, dwarf and elf were able to return.
Over the past century the island has been repopulated and a loose coalition exists between the thre races with the human King Selwyn at the head. But the place remains a source of great mystery, with Ancient ruins, mountains and forests unexplored, and dangerous.

I will post the stories in the order that I wrote them; uneditted so hopefully readers will see how my style has developed, an (I hope) improved.

What I strive to do with the Trojel stories is not simply follow old Fantasy tropes, but expand a little. So rather than lots of epic quests to save the world form the darkest evil, we might have a love story, or a detective story, or any other genre woven into a fantasy world.
Of course the mainstay will be swords and sorcery, (that's WHY people pick up a Fantasy book) but hopefully rather than being restricted, Trojel will open doors.
