Help needed!

Hello, wattpadian friends who are hopefully wiser than me. I have an issue that I need advice on and the internet is just giving me the same bunch of unhelpful junk over and over...

My dad owns a company. He knows I like writing. Whenever he caught me roleplaying in the past I told him I was writing. So, since I love writing so much he stuck me in the marketing department writing articles...about concrete. At first they let me make jokes and puns, but suddenly they said no, and there went my coping mechanism with having to write these articles. As much as I like writing, I hate writing articles. I almost failed journalism for crying out loud.

This is why I have decided to ask you all for advice. What would you all say is the best way to write articles? Is there some kind of system? Do I need to organize them a certain way?

The next question is, how do you write something you hate so much you feel like you're dying inside every time you think of it without loathing it so much? Usually I have ways of thinking of things that help me with torture tasks, but I'm not sure how to do that with this. Any tips?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm about ready to do anything short of running away screaming, even if it sounds crazy. Thank you guys so much for your help.

You could try explaining that writing articles is not the same as writing stories.

In terms of the article, write an outline of why you plan on doing. Then write down facts and quotes you plan on adding in.

Also, try to add as little bias as possible. And add a good starting sentence to hook the reader. First you have to give a very brief (aim for one sentence after the first hook) summary. So if the article was about a Forrest fire, you could summarize by saying “A Forrest fire kîlled Bob McBobcat in Dragonfly Forrest on January 5, 3016.” (Okay, maybe a better sentence but you catch my drift). You have who, (Bob), what, (fire), where, (Dragonfly Forrest) when, (January 1, 3016).

And all the important stuff should be after that, and you should work your way to the least important stuff.

If you don’t have a good hook, just write something in all caps (or bold) something like “INSERT INTERESTING HOOK HERE!!” Or something humorous to keep you going. In fact, if you’re having trouble on a certain part, I would suggest writing something humorous and informative so you know to come back later.

If you’re finding it really unbearable, you could try explaining that writing stories is very different from writing articles.

Hiya, random request but do you think you could evaluate my OC? I'm kinda scared that she's kinda god-modded although I tried my best to avoid that, and I was wondering if you'd give me your honest opinion.

Some_Random_Person98

@necro-phobiac Sounds good! Thanks! I just saw it. It'll take me a bit to read over it ane reply, but I will soon.

I've never written an article before, to my memory at least, but one thing I do know is that you put all the information at the start. Your first paragraph should give the reader a rough idea about what your saying and I think it's probably by paragraph three that by reading the three paragraphs that they should know everything that you're talking about. The first three paragraphs are like a small summary of the article because barely anyone reads past that, and the rest is just expanding on the summary. I had to read through an article for a law firm one time and I swear to god I got more information in the first four paragraphs than I did in the rest of it, articles are so stupid.

But seriously, I have no ideas how articles work. Get the points you want to make, split them into paragraphs and waffle about each of those points. Waffling is the only thing that can save you!!!

@Some_Random_Person98 Just tell your father the truth.

@starnova42
I can't tell you. I'm sorry, but I am the first one writing about the things I'm writing about, and the way we boost things like that it wouldn't be hard to find it, then the company I work for, which is teenie tiny. So, for privacy reasons I can't say exactly. That's not the issue. The issue is I'm terrible at articles and need tips from people about how to write them.

Well what aspect of concrete is the article about?
Reply

Some_Random_Person98

@starnova42 I did. Basically, in a nutshell, he said, "Tough toenails. Deal with it. If you want a job it's what you have to do." Just a lot longer than that. When you say things like that to him he keeps dragging it back up to beat you over the head with it. There's no escaping it, unfortunately.

Haha! Thank you! XD I intended to do Ray, Louis, or the snake, but her picture came up. Her face here just looks like she's up to something, kind of like all the evil planning I do, so it would be a shame not to have her as my profile picture. XD Plus, though she is literally the opposite of me, she is funny in the movie.

I have made a new year's resolution. It's rather simple, but I thought it should be something I'd tell you.

My New Year's Resolution is to stop roleplaying.

          ...stop cheering!

Ooops.. I had my fingers crossed...

Besides, who ever keeps these things?

Actually my resolution is to better my artistic skills, but what's the fun in saying that? It's much more fun to prank unsuspecting Internet friends. Happy almost April Fools!

@Some_Random_Person98 Thanks! :) Can't say no to a one-handed handstand! Honestly though, it is pretty funny.

So, I have a quick question for you whenever you're on. I'm thinking about writing a new book on Wattpad, called "OC Hall of Fame." It will be about judging OC's from different people that are entered in, and trying to evaluate what amount of detail and personality truly showcases they deserve to be "The Best of the Best." Before I try to publish this story and get things started however, I would like to have some more knowledgeable judges...and thus was wondering whether you'd like to be one of them ^^

OtakuSenpai19

Alright! Hhhh, I'm getting really excited for it already :D
