Hello Lovely Friends! 

It’s such a pleasure to meet you. My name is Leslye Walton and I’m the author of The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender. My genre of choice is Magical Realism, a form of writing that interlaces the magic elements of the story with the realistic parts in such a way that the reader questions the presence of neither. I attempt this in my debut novel, a multi-generational tale about Ava Lavender, a young girl who is completely ordinary except for one detail: she was born with the wings of a bird. 

When I’m not writing, I can often be found escaping into make-believe worlds, which, for the record, are always much more interesting than the real one anyway. I also spend a marginal amount of time teaching middle school kids to read and write, and a significant amount of time encouraging them to be kind to each other, even on the days when they don’t feel like it. Unfortunately, none of my students think I’m very cool, which is quite disappointing as it was the only reason I had for becoming a teacher. I’m only kidding.* Besides all that, some of my favorite things include Mr. Darcy, my very gentlemanly (albeit slightly pompous) Chihuahua, eating chocolate and hiding the evidence, and imagining if the world were more like a musical and less not like a musical.
