Alexa Hoffmann was born in Barbados in December 1993 to Joy Hope, a private research assistant. While her biological father remained vague in her life, she and her mother shared a bond that almost equated a typical nuclear family. "Sometimes," she says, "the addition of [her step-father, James Cox] didn't make that big of a difference, aside from the social image it presented."

After James' death in July 2011, and the subsequent and unexpected passing of her mother in December 2013, Alexa vowed to herself that she would try to accomplish some of the things which her parents wanted to achieve. This was intended as a means of showing them just what she could do when left to her own devices. One of these things was to finish some of the many books which she and her mother had started, but never completed.

She hopes to publish her first book before July 2015, on the fourth anniversary of her step-father's death.
