Conroy is a wounded soldier trying to scrape his life and his mental state back together, moving in with his older sister in a small mountain town, far away from the triggers of his old life. What he needs is the quiet, slow pace this small town offers and a chance to find his equilibrium with life again. Instead, what Conroy is thrust into the middle of is the ever growing secrecy around his sister's friend, the strange, almost hermit like Fao. At first Conroy writes his unease off as a part of his anxiety and paranoid panic attacks, but there is growing evidence that this simple, terse woman is far more than she first appears to be. When Conroy's sister and several children she was supervising go missing and all clues suddenly vanish in the middle of a forest glade, Fao's secrets start becoming a matter of life and death. Conroy just has to decide if the truths she reveals mean he's found a whole new world to believe in or if he's finally gone off the deep end. Either way the broken soldier has decided to throw his fate into the mix with Fao's and that's when the fur really starts to fly.
