Vivian Mellark worries about things an average fifteen-year-old shouldn't have to. With her abusive uncle being her only family she has left, she reaches her breaking point and runs away. She endures the harsh elements of living on the streets for a few weeks, but her temporary freedom ends when she is caught by the police. Because she is a minor, she must have guardians. She confesses her abuse, and the social worker finds her a foster family. When she starts to settle in their mansion of a house, their son comes home: Sebastian Reyes. As a delinquent who just finished his jail time, he is a whole package of trouble. Not only is Vivian haunted by memories of the sexual and physical abuse her uncle has put her through for years, she is bullied at school. And she has new dangers to deal with in her new home.
