Every year, Marion Groves Summer Camp holds the annual Marion Games, a series of competitive events in which, after the Thinning Round, promise $1,000 to the winner. Children from ages 9 to 17 are allowed to compete, and plenty come from out of state to compete after training vigorously for it. But after a "wealthy business tycoon" puts in a request for four winners, this years Games take an unexpected turn. The kids are sorted and placed into one of four event themes based on their specialties. A prize much greater than $1000 awaits the four who do come out on top, but nobody, including those in charge of the Games, have a clue as to what it might be.
