Gaara had reasons to hate hospitals and all kinds of other clinics. The smell of disinfectant and gauze bandages didn't bother him that much, no, his reasons were deeper. For him there was a reason why they called themselves hospitals: it smelled like sickness and death, at least for him. He could hardly endure the suffering and sometimes seriously ill faces of the people there. Ever since he saw his mother die in such a hospital many years ago, everything in him has resisted ever entering it again.

On this Saturday morning in the beautiful and lively streets of New York City, however, he had no choice. He had tried to convey his reasons for his disapproval of hospitals to his sister, but she insisted that he at least visit her every now and then while she was there. Everything in him struggled as he walked the city streets and he buried his mouth behind a thick scarf while looking straight ahead and concentrating on his way to the clinic. As if it wasn't bad enough in itself, it was also bitterly cold outside. Just as one expected from November of the calendar year.

"Yes, I'm on my way to see her," he said, just loud enough that you could hear it through his headset through the noise of the passing cars.

"I know that you dislike hospitals Gaara. But she's your sister too after all, and I can understand that she insists on visiting every now and then. She still has to stay there for a while and..."

"Yes, I got it. But she's also your sister, and you visit her just as rarely as me", Gaara interrupted his older brother on the phone. You could hear his mood clearly, he was really not enthusiastic about the upcoming visit to the hospital. But the way his sibling is, it just seemed to amuse his older brother even more and he snorted a soft laugh into the receiver.

"Come on. You know that I have a lot to do with work even on the weekends and that's the reason I hardly find any time. And since you are currently looking for work, you have enough time to visit Temari at the hospital", Kankuro said to his younger brother.

He didn't like being reminded at all that he wasn't currently working. He took a deep breath in and out before ending the conversation with a quick, "I'll be right there. See you later."

The relationship between the three siblings was good even if it wasn't always that way. But Kankuro especially loved teasing his little brother every now and then. Gaara, on the other hand, was a taciturn and reserved nature; in his 25 years it had always been that way. Temari was the spirited, quick-tempered person, while Kankuro tried to take everything rather relaxed and with humor. The three really couldn't be more different.

As he was about to cross the street, he had already taken a step on the asphalt, he heard an all too familiar noise through the music on his headphones, which made him look up and take another step back. He was almost at the clinic and could already see the large, well-filled parking lot, as well as the side entrance to the emergency room, when the sound of a siren grew louder in his direction. The cars on the street pulled to the side and formed an emergency lane through which the approaching ambulance came - closely followed by a small car.

Gaara crossed the street after the traffic returned to normal and when he saw what was going on in front of the emergency room entrance he paused for a moment. A blue-haired woman had got out of the small car - yes, Gaara had to look twice, actually blue hair - she was completely blown up and tried to reach the person who was being lifted out of the ambulance on the stretcher. A much younger, black-haired man stood by her and tried to calm her down, obviously with little success.
