The length of a car ride is too long,
Yet that of our entire lives is too short.
Only when something ruins our strengths
Do we realize these skewed lengths.
When something strikes us deep down,
It takes time to rise back up.
Like a car ride towards a life of doubt
These hardships test our courage out.
When we are in good spirits,
Something seems to push them away.
The day drags on and on
Like some weird sort of con.
Then we get back up again
Remembering how short life is.
We have to treasure the people around
And keep this cycle going round and round.
This is in honor of my grandfather. He was an amazing man. He was smart enough to become the valedictorian of his school, which is something I would never be able to do. He was very devoted to God, and he would go to prisons very often and sing and play his guitar to prisoners. On top of that, he was an engineer who created several landmarks that will be remembered forever. I saw him shortly before he died to say goodbyes, promising him he would be in our memories for the rest of our lives. Hopefully, he will watch over my family for the rest of our lives.
I just felt like I needed to do this. No sympathy is needed, I just needed to do something for my grandfather. It was the second time someone I knew died, so... it's also to help people remember to treasure every second they have with the people they love because when they die, it hurts. It hurts a lot. A lot more than you ever think it will.
