Irish school-girl Catriona O’Brien has persuaded her adoring step-father Sam to bring her toGenevafor the Easter holiday, on the pretext of visiting her mother Brigit who is the Irish Ambassador to the United Nations. But actually Catriona wants to visit CERN and solve the mystery of how and why her scientist-father was killed in his Dublin laboratory six years ago, a murder to which she was the only witness.
In CERN they are taken into an underground cavern so Brigit can talk to the brilliant but secretive Chinese-Irish scientist Dr Michael Zhang. He has persuaded workaholic shift-leader Danny Schneider to go down to investigate what Michael claims is a fault with the ATLAS detector.
But is it really a fault, or does Michael know that a Cosmic Monopole has been trapped by the powerful magnetic fields inside ATLAS? Doesn’t he realize the Monopole might absorb energy and be transformed into something that could threaten the whole world?
The Cosmic Monopole is the first volume in Time Crystal, a series which will follow Catriona as she travels back in time to the Big Bang in a desperate attempt to save the Universe.
