Ignorance Prevails

Ignorance prevails in Muslim lands.

I see their judgmental stares.

I can almost read what their minds think.

I can almost hear the words they say.

Born and bred in these lands,

Raised within a family that claims to believe,

Carrying names that proclaims their deen,

And yet I am not safe from sharp tongues.

Ignorant remarks stab me like a knife,

And stares make me wish I wasn't there.

What have we become? Why are we this way?

I've made my choice and it can't be changed,

And yet ignorance cuts deep.

I struggle and I hold on,

And I hope in the end, I shall be rewarded.
