LOUD MUSIC, blinding lights, the feeling of alcohol burning the back of her throat. Those were the things that used to make Nova Vega feel alive. She used to live for the weekend, chasing the fake feeling of happiness the bitter taste of vodka gave her, even if it was ephemeral.
Back then, putting on the party girl facade was the only way she knew how to escape her reality. The truth was that she drank to forget, to forget how unfair life was. Nova had never expected to be born a princess and live happily ever after because fairytales were for children and fools. Life was unfair, and that was a fact, but she could pretend it wasn't.
Now, Nova knew better than to drown her sorrows. She hadn't forgotten how life had taken her father away from her so soon, him dying at the hands of a killer law enforcement had yet to catch, she just decided to stop weeping and try do to something about it. Since nothing could be done for her father anymore, Nova decided to dedicate her life to trying to stop the same thing happening to other people.
Sadly, the FBI was a man's world. It cost Nova years of hard work to get well situated inside the Bureau and she still got some judging looks here and there. She didn't care about what other people thought of her, she knew she was a damn good agent and she didn't need to prove herself to anyone.
Nova liked to think that she was a realist, the type of woman guided by her head, not her heart. However, she had allowed herself to have one dream — to become an FBI profiler. So, when she gets an opportunity to fulfill her biggest desire, she isn't about to let it go.
She has it all under control, until the moment she meets Spencer Reid and gets all her priorities turned upside down. Surprisingly, she doesn't seem to mind it that much.
