DALE'S BLOW JOB

I'd been feeling so low.

I'd actually been crying.

A strong wind was howling.

Tears kept streaming onto my cheeks.

Dabbed them with toweling.

My vicious headache was pounding.

My glasses kept frosting.

I tried so hard to heave that snow.

Such a bad cold I had,

Hanging on for almost two weeks.

Snow was getting me down.

Why did I live in this cold town?

My arms started aching.

It felt like my back was breaking.

My fur hat was slipping.

My frozen nose kept on dripping.

My throat was raw, of course,

And my voice was terribly hoarse.

My ears started humming.

Some of my fingers were numbing.

My cough was very deep.

It had deprived me of much sleep.

'Twas then I thought of Dale,

Recently released from the jail.

I could just let the driveway be?

But my conscience was warning me:

"Such a beast of a man,

Ignore the driveway if you can."

Should I give him a try?

I could even give him the eye.

My only salvation was Dale

"But  stoop to his level . . .  now Gail!"

Had I really been fair ?

How about a New Year's affair?

Show up to their party;

His wife knows I'm rather arty.

Dreaming of my warm bed,

Was I even getting ahead?

My days were so busy.

There were times when I felt dizzy.

Next day I must go out;

Banking, shopping, part of the route.

Had no choice but to go.

'Twas twenty-two below zero.

Must not let the snow pack,

So pressed to shovel out a track;

I needed it all done.

It was not my idea of fun.

It would soon become night.

There was no other soul in sight.

I almost gave up hope

When, alas, from behind the slope

A big snowblower purred.

Who'd have dreamt that would occur?

And right out of the blue

Came Dale to the rescue.

He did such a good blow job

I broke down and sobbed.

With a winter storm warning forecast for our city and surrounding

areas  for the next 48 hours, I decided to revisit this topical poem. Up

to 50 cms of snow are predicted to fall, accompanied by sub zero

temperatures and blowing snow. To make matters worse, yesterday

at 7 am I spent 40 mins shoveling the snow from my driveway to enable

me to keep an appointment with my optometrist. The temperature was

31 degrees below zero. Yikes! The bad news was that my finger tips were

"borderline frozen" although I was wearing two pairs (wool and fur lined

gloves) and  the good news was that my optometrist showed up. I guess

she needed my business.  ~ Gail

Five days ago we had a severe winter storm. 30 + cm of snow fell in less than

12  hrs . We have continued to have sub zero temperatures and blowing snow

since then. Tonight  -30 C is predicted.  ~ Gail
