America sat on his front steps, glasses in hand. He stared down at the ground sadly.

You watched from the window tentatively. You had been worried about him ever since the Great Depression started. You saw him wipe at his eyes a little and your heart broke.

You walked outside and sat next to him. He didn't say anything or look at you. Without a word, you hugged him tightly. You felt him stiffen under your embrace then relax, softening into your arms.

"America," you said softly.

He didn't respond.

"Alfred...I know it's hard but you can get through it," you tried again.

"How do you know?" he finally asked.

You let go and looked at him, wiping a few of his tears. "I know you can do it because you're the hero." You smiled softly at him.

He looked at you, features softening. "You really think so?" he asked.

You nodded.

He hugged you, kissing the top of your head. "Thank you, ________."

"Of course. Anything for the hero."
