I’d never really considered how my wedding day would be – never even given a smidge of a thought as to how my married life would be. Marriage was just an obligation that kept my mom and dad extremely exclusive to each other. It was a circumstance that resulted in my birth. Just that. I’d never for once dreamed or imagined that somewhere far away in the future I would be standing on an alter exchanging vows with some man I was supposedly obsessively in love with.

Here I am anyways, somewhere not nearly as far away in the future as I’d hoped, standing on a semblance of an alter. In despair I gaze up into the glowering face of the twisted man preparing to bind my soul to his. His piercing emerald eyes dance excitedly as he reveals his perfectly arranged teeth in a spine-crawling grin. I loathed the man with so much force and intensity that it shook my entire body, giving me the appearance of the wild bull about to charge at the provoking red cloth.

My seething anger only seemed to amuse him as he all-so-tenderly tucked a stray strand of my dark hair behind my ear. He was intent on driving me insane.

“Oh, sweet Karen,” his voice was like pure, unadulterated honey. It sickened me. “Cheer up love, it is our big day.”

My teeth gritted against each other as I tried to stay strong.

Stay strong, stay strong, stay strong.

That proved incredibly difficult as a traitor tear trailed down my cheek – the heartbreaking sound of my love screaming out my name was just too much to bear. His ear-splitting, heart-wrenching voice crashed and banged against every wall as if it had the power to tear down the barrier keeping him out. But I knew he couldn’t get in. He couldn’t jump in to chivalrously save me this time. I’d run out of luck. I was on my own.
