I looked out my window, thinking about how unlucky I am. I have this curse upon me, ensuring that my life is miserable. Well...the rest of my life anyway. I'll probably die before this is all over. In fact, I want to. I think I suffered enough heartbreak for a thousand men. Eight to twelve months.... I walked to my calendar and circled today's date. I flipped eight months ahead and circled that day, moving to twelve months and circling that day. It will give me something to monitor my time. Not that I need to. I saw a blank sheet of paper and a pen on my desk.

So I have to live life to its fullest don't I?

The meeting with Doctor Santana flashed through my head. Live life to its fullest.... I grabbed the pen and started making a list of things I wanted to do before my time is over.

1. Go out with Alec at least once, if not, twice.

2. Make Marcus laugh

3. Tell Alec that I love him

4. Get my eighteenth promise

I set my pen down and stared at what I just wrote. It wasn't a long list but the things on their seemed nearly impossible. For one, Alec and I got off on a bad note and I don't even know if he wants to talk to me anymore. He hasn't said anything to me except my name. Also, Marcus has never laughed since the death of his loved one. Third, how can I get my eighteenth promise without having seventeen promises that had to be broken? I sighed and placed the list under my pillow, in hopes that no one would find it. In hopes. I walked out of the room only to see four angry vampires in front of me. If you guess Jane, Alec, Felix and Demetri, congratulations! You won a prize.

"You owe us an explanation missy." growled Jane.

"And it better be good." added Demetri.

I sighed and pushed my way past them.

"I don't owe you anything. I want to keep this to myself and none of you can tell me otherwise." I said.

I suddenly saw a pool of mist around me, keeping me trapped. I whipped around and growled at Alec.

"How dare you disrespect your superior?!" I hissed.

"My superior would know what to do by now." he smirked.

Oh...that little smirk did it.

"You want to play? Let's play."

I let out my children like soldiers preparing for battle.

"Hey Alec...have you ever played Blackjack?" I smirked.

He chuckled.

"Of course I have."

"Well let's just see how good of a player you actually are."

I sent out my shadows.

"First batch, queen of spades and five of hearts." I said, my shadows breaking through the dome of mist a little.

"First batch, king of spades and two of diamonds." he smirked, replacing the broken layer with a fresh layer of mist.

I smirked.

"Hit or stay?" I asked, breaking his new layer.

"Hit." he said confidently.

I made a shadow of a card.

"This is your next card." I smirked.

I slowly turned it around as my shadows broke his dome.

"Queen of hearts. You bombed." I smirked.

He growled as I walked away.

"Remember Alec....no one beats me in a round of cards."

*Author's note:

For those of you readers who don't know, Blackjack is a card game in which you get two cards from the dealer in the beginning. Ace can be used as both a one or eleven. Kings, queens, and jacks are all worth ten. The rest of the cards are worth what they are. Your goal is to get a sum as close as possible to twenty-one, if not, exactly on it. For example, an ace and a king would be an automatic win. However, if you go over twenty-one, you bombed yourself and the dealer wins.
