Everyone encounters mental health concerns from time to time so it is important for you to understand that if you are encountering a mental health issue, it is completely normal. A mental health concern becomes a mental illness when the signs and symptoms cause frequent pressure and impact your abilities.

A mental illness can make you miserable and can cause problems in your daily life such as at school, at work, in relationships etc. Thus, it is essential that you seek help from the resources available. Usually these symptoms can be managed through medications that are prescribed or by talk therapy.

Mental illnesses are not always caused due to surroundings. They are caused due to environmental and genetic factors. People who have blood relatives, who also have a mental illness, are more prone to have a mental illness due to certain genes that are passed down.

Another cause of mental illness can be environmental exposure. Exposure of toxins, alcohol or drugs as a child or even in the womb can be linked to mental illnesses.

Neurotransmitters are brain chemicals that carry signals from one neuron to another. If this transmitter is impaired, the function of the nerve receptors and nerve systems changes which can lead to emotional disorders such as depression.

Brain damage caused by an injury can also lead to weak mental health. Traumatic experience such as combat or assault in the military, stressful life situations or an ongoing medical condition can also lead to a mental health issue.

Mental health problems usually do not get better on their own. Thus, you may need to get professional help as soon as possible because a weak mental health can affect the child's quality life, physical health, relationships etc. There are many professional options available such as school counselors, psychologists, local health care centers or local mental health services.

However it is essential that the appropriate mental health stage is diagnosed and help is pursued according to that.
